Do you think we should be breeding at all?

Due to the rescue crisis, do you think we should be breeding our dogs at all, except from police dog, guide dogs etc?

Re: Do you think we should be breeding at all?

Yes, because there are some breeds that are limited or almost non existent in rescues.

Re: Do you think we should be breeding at all?

Yes to:

* Continue lines - in an ideal world, all breeders would be registered and would be told how many litters to produce.

* Working dogs are needed and should be bred.

More should be done to encourage people to go to shelters. There was a recent thread with a poll on "where would you get your next dog from?". The last time I looked, it was almost 50% from rescue and 50% from breeders.

I am very disappointed with those results. And unfortunately where there is demand, there will be supply.

Re: Do you think we should be breeding at all?

I think its great that people go to rescue centres, but ther will always be people that want a particular breed and a young pup 8 weeks being the norm, a particular sex which would be difficult even from breed rescues.

And where would we get our dogs from then? Rescue centres would be empty too. Stupid question really.

that's a bit rude. it's just a question, no need for such a rude answer.

Re: Do you think we should be breeding at all?

Yes i think its important to keep breeds in existance and provide good examples in future.

If people stopped buying from the irresponsible breeders and considered taking a rescue instead it would help the situation.
