do most rescues

allow you to adopt a dog if your going to be leaving it 4/5 hours but only a few times a week
if you can ensure them about the excercise training and love your going to give it?

Re: do most rescues

It depends on the dog,as a general rule we have a limit of 4 hours. But we do get dogs that are used to being left for longer hours so we stretch that rule as such

Re: do most rescues

ah ;/ i hope were allowed one, were getting an older one not a pup so surely it would be able to be left that time a few times a week?and.

if no one does allow one because it will be left 5 hours then thats when we will have no other option and need to just buy from a breeder and adjust the pup into a routine to be able to stay that amount of time on his own.

Re: do most rescues

again it depends on the circumstances the animal came from, alot we get in have had awful life,4-5 hours is very resonable.
If you get a pup theres no way you could leave it for 4 hours straight away.

Re: do most rescues

I should think it would be ok if it's an older dog and it's only a few times a wekk.Surely they would understand that people who work can be good dog owners and people have things to do.I'd perhaps be tempted to lie a little (I know lol)

Re: do most rescues

tahts not very fair on the dog is it!!!if its not used to being left on its own for long periods of time, then you lie to the rescue about it.all you`ll end up with is an unhappy dog.
If your only going to be leaving it for 4/5 hours most rescues are fine with that,so im not sure what you need to lie about

Re: do most rescues

I don't think 4hrs is unreasonable, the group we got our greyhound from was fine about them being left as we worked full-time as long as we had made arrangements for them to be taken out every 4hours. One lady i know volunteered for a greyhound group but they wouldn't let her adopt if the greyhound would be left more than 4 hours total per day even though she already had a grey and midday dogwalker for it so she had to get her 2nd dog elsewhere.

You have to just try the rescue as they all have different policies, so if one says no then try another. There are a lot of options these days as many rescues will home outside there local area.
