What is your dog learning currently?

Rufus is still learning the basics, recall, leave and drop being the main ones. He knows what all 3 mean but he's not consistent yet (getting close).

What are your furry family members learning and how do you train them? Could be interesting to see if anyone's got anything interesting on the go.

Re: What is your dog learning currently?

Sophie's in gundog training at the minute which was obviously put off for a while I'm hoping for her to go out on a couple of shoots once she's trained enough but that won't be for a while and she's clicker trained

Re: What is your dog learning currently?

We just learnt 'speak' at the weekend and are in the process of learning wave (he will do continual high 5's from a distance) and I'm going to introduce BANG (where he pretends to fall down dead) soon.

We are still trying to reinforce his recall! He will drop things when you touch them, but we're trying to improve it so that he drops it without you having touched the item or him.

I think our recall is going to take us the longest to learn! We practised all summer to little avail, and now its winter time I think we will just practise our heelwork, I bought a canny collar today, so will have to see how we go, he doesn't tend to pull, its just when he sees other dogs or a bird, lol!

Bertie I'm trying to teach to lift his back feet on command (trying to disprove the adage that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, Bertie is 11 years old), then I'll teach Skye.

Also trying to teach Bertie to jump Skye, then Skye to go under Bertie.

Re: What is your dog learning currently?

Polly's unlearning something at present, I'm teaching her not to jump on sofas because of her leg operation, and as she's nearly eleven it's taking a while, though we're getting there. Once I know she won't jump on seats I will be able to leave her in the house for a little while when I go out without having to fasten her in her playpen. It will be nice to get rid of the playpen, too, with the sitting room being so small.

Re: What is your dog learning currently?

I've just bought a tipsy target, so my two are learning to touch it with their nose and their paw, Darwin learnt it in two mins he's now progressed into holding it, (he touches it with his paw then wraps it round the stick and holds it at his chest) Tilly still hasn't got it yet, but then she has been poorly

This is the Tipsy Target

Tipsee Target!
