Re: just bought a gentle leader for the mutt

I used one on Oscar and he wasnt keen. I found the best way was to just put it on and keep walking treating when he wasnt fussing with it.

I used it for a couple of weeks to firm up his heel work so thought of it as an aid to training rather than a lifetime solution

I use one of these on bruno as he does pull without it not overly keen on them. am investing in a dog matic for hiom . i think they are much metter and they are a much better fit. they also dont rise up onto the eyes. i have a dogmatic for my shep and it is brilliant imo

Re: just bought a gentle leader for the mutt

I had a one of these wasn't keen as it rode up into the eyes, I've also had the dogmatic, loved it, but eas almost impossible to use because it had a buckle and my dog is so furry I could ne ver find it!!! The best I found was the Black dog, very adaptable, but the little side cord were made of some kind of natural material, and rotted away as my mutts drools a lot, and sticks his head into any water he can find LOL

Now we use a halti, I like it, it never rides up, it's well padded, and has a secure clip

Oh we also had the canny collar at one point, that was a completel faff!!! And also tried the canine bridle, made from a thinish rope, this was the worst!!! It just seemed to tighten and almost cut into his face, used once and binned!!!

I should take up product testing headcollars with benny hehehee

Re: just bought a gentle leader for the mutt

We used a halti on Geordie and she really wasn't keen. She actually scratched right next to her eye which made it bleed. I felt it didn't really solve the problem either - just covered it up because as soon as we didn't use it she pulled again. So what we did was put it on but didn't actually connect it, Just put lead on collar and she didn't pull then eventually got it down to takin it off when she was walking nice and putting it on again if she started pulling again and she seemed to realise to walk nice. She still sometimes pulls but not nearly as much or as bad

Re: just bought a gentle leader for the mutt

I had one for my first springer ye the typical pulling springer and ye they stop them pulling but monty hated it so much that he wouldnt come back to me as he knew he would have to have it put back on so i ditched it i wasnt prepared to spoil all the hard recall training when i called him to me to have his lead on he would come up sit a my feet and have the lead put on with the halti he just ran away he knew what was coming
