Pet Insurance

Hi guys,

I have recently brought home a little chihuahua puppy which came with 6 weeks free insurance with pet plan. I was wondering what everyone thought about whether I should continue with pet plan at aprox £40 a month!!! or whether a cheaper company would be as good? (M&S, Tesco, Sainsbury etc)

Thanks

Re: Pet Insurance

In one word NO. That is extremely expensive and Tesco, Sainsbury's etc. offer a much better rate, with more or less the same cover.

I would suggest however, that the insurance you chose allows your dog alternative treatment such as acupuncture. This is invaluable for older dogs with arthritis and not forgetting any behavioural problems.

Re: Pet Insurance

It is also worth finding one that pays out without a problem. I use NFU mutual and they pay out, offer plenty of cover and are a reasonable price.

Jesus, no don't keep that! £40!?!?!?!?!?

I recently changed all my lot to a gold policy with Healthy Pets after Susies recommendation. It's £28 a month for 3 dogs and 2 cats.

Re: Pet Insurance

Is your Chihuaha made of gold?!!!!! Thats extortionate. Pet plan quoted me £21.98 for a GSD so i am confused why you would be charged £40 for one.

For a puppy I should cocoa, have a look at the RSPCA insurance cover. I am still looking round, I need to pull my finger out we get two new kittens next week. I've got the four week free Petplan but from experience you don't get anything for free, no doubt it will be added to the premiums once the free period expires. I could be wrong.

Re: Pet Insurance

I have unlimited cover for my beagle with pet plan for £38 pr month. I like the peace of mind it provides.

However don't listen to me; all of my family and friiends agree that i am clueless with money

Re: Pet Insurance

I wouldn't touch Tescos as they are really hard to pay out and for there ongoing conditions its a real nightmare ,

I'm with Healthy pets 12.00 a month

That's my worry that you pay the monthly premiums in good faith and then they don't pay out.

My other concern is that you are asked at the vets is your pet insured before they print out the bill. Is there two prices?
