The importance of insurance

I have always had my pet's insured, largely because veterinary treatment is so expensive, and I want to offer my pet the best treatment I can. Do you have insurance, if not, why?

Re: The importance of insurance

We have too many to insure so put the money away each month that it would have cost us - but in saying that little Shocka was insured when she did her foot due to the KC 6 weeks free insurance so we have carried on to insure her because we didnt know what the future might hold as we were not sure whether the toe would mend and it may have meant amputation but could also lead to other difficulties in the future!!!

So havent voted as the majority of ours arent insured but Shocka is

We have tried to talk to some of the bigger pet insurance people to do a block one for show kennels, breeders but it is a no go

Re: The importance of insurance

I know some of my clients put money away each week for this very reason. Some have enjoyed an extra holiday too

mine are insured except the eldest two as they wont insure them now because of their age (10 and 14)

Re: The importance of insurance

Ours are both insured Daisy seems to be accident prone so its a good job really , Our vets do thier own insurance so no excess to worry about , it costs us about 35 quid a month for both dogs no consultancy fee either so i can take them any time im worried about something and not have to pay as long as no meds are needed , if meds are needed we get 20% off the cost as we have thier insurance and as for spaying which is a volutary op we will have to pay but again get 20% off , they also get thier yearly boosters for free . Cover is for £1500 and £1000 towards a specialist if needed .The only thing it doesnt have is 3rd party.

Re: The importance of insurance

For me insurance is essential - not optional. I simply cant afford not to be insured. So far this year we've spent £600 on Benson.

i agree JO.P, insurance is very important because if your dog need treatment or is in an accident or needs an OP, then you would not be able to afford the rediculous vet bills. the insurers pay most of the bill and you are then left with a small fraction of the bill!

REMEMBER: when your dog has vet treatment or an op, you pay for absolutely everything, right down to the gloves the surgeon wears and the stitching used to close up your dogs wound, as well as the anaesthetic, premed and antibiotics afterwards. and then there is the actual vet fee, xrays if they are needed and several other things they charge you for!!!

I haven't got pet insurance BUT I put money by each month - the amount it would have cost me. I have two cats and one dog (did have two dogs). I also budget for their vaccinations - although I am lucky that I have a vet nearby that you pay a one off amount and they vaccinate your pet for life.

As a result I do have quite a nice lump sum put by for vet fees.

We are getting a pup in the summer and we are considering insurance for him - anyone recommend a good one, one that insures the pet for their whole life and not just to say 7 which some do?
