Question Re: hobby breeding is classed as business, be warned

please excuse me jumping in, i dnt know how to start a new thread.
i live in a houseing association house, i have my gsd.s at home and last year i produced 3 litters, i know that to be classed as a breeder(business) you must be producing 4 or more litters a year, my houseing association has just taking me to court because i wouldnt remove my shepherds from property, the jugde had decided that because my guys had produced puppies they were not allowed to be on property, so i have been given 28 days to remove the 4 dogs or be evicted, i have never produced puppies for sake of making money, i give pups away so i can do my own research on them, selling at most 4/5 pups in litter, the judge said i still sold pups, therefore i have ran a business, even though i sold them to cover dog costs,
so be warned, in case this happens to you, hobby breeders can still be classed as a business

I was thinking the same, also different councils have different rules on how many bitches / litters you can produce without needing to be liciensed.
When we lived in the midlands we were only allowed to keep two bitches that were to be bred from,if we kept more then we had to be liciensed.

By producing 3 litters I wouldn't say it was a hobby.

Exactly.
I thought most council/housing assosiations only allowed one dog/cat anyway

yeah housing associations do only allow 1 dog/cat on the premises and it is in all contracts that you cannot run a business from your home. whether or not you see what you are doing is a hobby or business!

if you have 3 or more breeding bitches then you must have a license for the dogs, especially if you sell the puppies whether it is 1, 2 , 3 or 4 puppies that you sell. if you didnt sell the pups then you wouldnt require a breeding license!

breeding licenses, follow the link: License - Breeding of Dogs | ClacksWeb

breeding is only classed as a hobby, if you give all pups away and not sell any of them. and if you have more than 1 breeding bitch then it is hardly a hobby now is it?
