Re: Does anyone work and have a dog?

I have 2 dogs and work full time 40 hrs a week, and my hubby does too. He is closer to home so sometimes if he can he will come home at lunch and let them out for a pee. They are always excited to see us but that lasts for all of 2 minutes and then they go and do their own thing.

I leave them both with a full stuffed kong which they are eager to get before I even leave! If i forget about the kongs they go and get them and drop them at my feet before I leave!

I feel bad/guilty but at most they are home alone 2 or 3 days a week as my OH can do back shifts and has days off during week also.

I really wish i could bring them to work with me.
I miss them

Re: Does anyone work and have a dog?

They all seem to be the same in that respect once they get past the initial separation phase when young. I used to leave a filled Kong in the kitchen with Thor, my first dogue to entertain him while I was out, But I'd always come back to fond him asleep, the untouched Kong where I'd left it. He'd then trundle over empty the Kong and eat the contents.

Re: Does anyone work and have a dog?

Yes I have one at the moment and I work days as a dog walker, so she can come with me on some of the walks, but in the evenings I work in a pub so she stays home, with a dog flap and loads of interactive toys.

It's not ideal, but I think it's unfair to say that dog ownership should be for the rich, or the unemployed, or housewives .

I would be happy to take on a fist full of rescue dogs knowing that they are safe, well fed, kept healthy, warm, loved, trained, stimulated and exercised. Time home alone is the down side, but we need to earn money to give them these luxuries

Re: Does anyone work and have a dog?

I have 3 dogs and work 2-3 12.5hr shifts a week.
I work nightshifts only so drop the dogs off at a friends early evening, she then takes them back and puts them to bed at about midnight. I couldnt do it working days but I think they would be ok even if no-one could take them as they are trained to use puppy pads.

Re: Does anyone work and have a dog?

When we get our dog, My parents are working from 9-18.00, and i will be at school, But the lucky thing is that my parents own a business, and when they go to work, they will take the dog with, and it can stay in the office in a play room or something. And since they own there own company, they can take it our for walkies whenever!
