Re: Breaking up the family?!
hi,thought id give you my advice on your difficult dilemma whilst i wait for the last of my 3 cats to come back indoors, she'll want to stare at the garden wall for 5 more mins anyway....now then,if it were me in your shoes i'd do whatever it takes to let the two dogs remain together.whether that means you have them both live with you or,your mum has them both.either way they really shouldnt be parted.they'll have a special bond with each other now.they look so lovely together!so cute.hope this helps you in some way.take care.jackie.x

Re: Breaking up the family?!
If you are ready to move out then I would move and take the pup with you.
See how he settles. My dogs are together nearly all the time but if one goes out after the initial whine they just settle and get on without the other one. How far away are you planning to move? Will someone be around for the pup during the day? You could always take the pup with you, but drop him at your mums to spend the day with Tess whilst you are at work. That way you are both happy. If he really misses her you could always move him back in. Really cute picture by the way, lovely dogs. |

Re: Breaking up the family?!
I would take the pup with you. I have a mother and son who sleep just like that together, but, when seperated they are just as happy to be getting individual attention, I think you will be surprised just how much the bond with you will increase when there is just the two of you.
At 8 months he will adjust as he is still a baby and they will always have the bond on visits. he has a very good mum though that you are even considering leaving him behind for his happiness.

Re: Breaking up the family?!
Thanks to all of you for your great (and thoughtful) replies.
Yeah, I'll have to bite the bullet sometime soon and move out. If I make sure that Arlo gets enough time with Tess, and enough to keep occupied with when I'm at work, then he'll be fine. Leaving him with my mum isn't an option, since she's elderly and one dog is more than enough for her! Anyway, thanks again. I'm a bit overwhelmed by how helpful and nice everyone is. What a great community! All the best - I'll keep you posted...! Ro |

Re: Breaking up the family?!
Let us know how you get on when you decide to move.
And just hang around and chat in the mean time - your pup is gorgeous. |

Re: Breaking up the family?!
I was in a similar position, I our family two dogs that adored each other, and I was getting married and moving to my new home, one of the dogs was mine although all the family treated the dog as theirs, anyway I was going to take my dog with me, but it would have been difficult seperating the two, so my mum happily agreed to keep both dogs, a couple of years later my mums dog passed away, so I brought my dog to live with me and he stayed til he was 15 years old
