Re: New Dog Owner

I'm looking up dog trainers now, and was lucky to find 4 in my town. Even one 3 minutes walk from my house!

These bones, and pigs ears? Are they real bones and pigs ears? I'm not vegan but it does make me a lil squimish thinking about it. :S

I think he knows the command "leave" and "Drop" a lot more after todays walk. Kept picking up sticks and bits of metal and plastic.

I'll use the rattle next out on walking then.
didnt see this post. glad to hear his tummy is better anbd hes doing well with the training!

you can give him raw bones and knuckles, the pigs ears i think are dried/smoked, but they are very good treats to keep sunny occupied and stimulated!

I fear my allergies are coming back up!

When I was young, about 6 or 7 I had an allergy test that came back positive for dogs, but it was only a tiny bit allergic. Now I've got little spots on my hands, blocked nose and an itchy eye.

I hope i'm not allergic!

Re: New Dog Owner

When I was young I was allergic to horses but loved them, so wore gloves when touching them and suffered the blotches at home in tears... it soon went. Then I found I was allergic to cats. We adopted one that appeared on our doorstep... I suffered the blotches in tears and it soon went. Got some rabbits.. found out I was allergic to rabbits... you see where this is going.

In my experience, if you love something enough, you go through the pain and you build up a resistance. It's not pleasant, but having the animal close to you is worth so much more, in my opinion. Depends on how bad your allergy is.

Re the bones thing... do you have a butchers close to you? if so, go in and ask for a bone. It's FREE!!! find out the day they cut up the meat and they'll have the bones that they normally chuck. If you make it regular, they'll keep them aside for you. Big smiles help

Re: New Dog Owner

Totally agree Katy, I was mildly allergic to cats, we adopted two and it slowly got better and after a few months I had no reaction at all, most people will build up a resistance to it after a short while.

With regards bones, I got 30kg of chicken, lamb and beef bones for £6.90 the other day! They're all pretty meaty too so shouldn't have to give too much extra meat on top!

Noooooo, go to your local friendly neighbourhood butcher It's great, I get chatted up at the same time (not so great for you, if the butcher is a man which in 99.9% of the time is the norm **chuckle**)

Nothing in life is free these days, most butchers have cottoned on to us raw feeders and sell the bones!

Local butchers ... they're rare here, maybe one in town. The % of male butchers to qualified female butchers is probably more like 99.999999999999% when I qualified as a butcher there were 5 female qualifed butchers in wales ... it was 25:1 in the classroom, and yes I know all the jokes about sausages you can think of, lol, although it means htey can't rip me off by pretending one cut of meat is something else. Most butcher will either give away the bones or charge very little for them as they have to pay to get rid of them, so it's a win win situation for them.

Re: New Dog Owner

OOOO a lady butcher. Hats off to you!!!! you are indeed a minority! And yes, our butcher is more than happy to pass over free bones as he has to get rid of them. He gets into each dog and Zeb used to send him yearly Christmas cards saying 'fanks for de luvly bonez' . When Zeb needed to put on weight due to his kidney problem, he spooned offcuts on us. He was so very upset when Zeb was put to sleep, he offered a shoulder to cry on. Bless his heart!

AJ, crikey your butchers are mercenary what a pity!!! it should be a win win situation!!!!
