ooooohhhhh good, im so pleased you feel better about sunny. just remember that everything is new to you both and things will turn out great between you both, as long as you keep him in line with correct training!

for sunny to be more comfortable with your brother, he can also help you train him. if your brother does some small things like asking sunny to sit, give paw or lay down to start with and also give him treats when he does the exercises with him. sunny will begin to trust him more because treats will be involved. your brother could also make up sunny's food and give it to him, because again food is involved again.

if sunny is comfortable with your brother then i dont see any problem with your brother walking him, feeding him and also helping with training. 5 minute training sessions to begin with, then he can make them longer and 20-25 minute walks and then make them longer.

hope this helps!

Re: New Dog Owner

It does help.

He also knows something now, well, he knows it a little "On your bed" and he goes to his bed, only if you're near it though.

Looking for a trainning place though in my area (gosport) if anyone knows any local ones (ones that are not too far away) any recommendations would be cool (I've looked at the ones provided above).

We'll take him in a month time or so, so he's more used to us and more people. I'll be introducing him to another friend of mines tonight, hopefully that'll go well.

Re: New Dog Owner

Before you enrole you should go and watch a class with your family without the dog, if there is anything you see that you are unhappy about then don't enrole. A good trainning class will recommed that you do that, be very unsure of any that don't let you.

Re: New Dog Owner

Thank you.

My friend told me of a place he takes his dog, but I decided against it as they have around 12 dogs in the same room at the same time.

Just taken him for a walk anyway, and the poor little fella nearly chocked! He started chewing on the plastic things you get in pepparami sticks, i took it out of his mouth though and orderd him to drop it.

The walk was fine, except he was pulling the lead a little, and doesn't respond as much on the lead. I have picked up a good tip my friend told me though. "If your dog pulls on the lead, just turn around and walk away". It works.

He's getting used to strangers. Passed 1 dog who he wanted to go to but I pulled him away from, and he was OK with strangers and my friend who I introduced him to today, he only barked at him once.

So yes, that was pretty good.

Another question though about cooking food. When my mums cooking food he'll hover about in the kitchen, I know he just wants a sniff and all but if we call him or try to distract him with toys, treats or even the bottle rattle, he'll look, ignore it and stay in the kitchen. Is there a way he can be trained to not do this, as often? I don't mind him having a sniff and all, it's just today he was in the kitchen 30 minutes whilst the dinner was being cooked. I put him on his house trainning lead and took him to my room, is that a good way, or not?

Still learning, but picking up good tips.

Re: New Dog Owner

You could use an indoor lead to keep him away when your cooking, I don't mind mine around me as we have been teaching him how to behave in the kitchen and he knows he is not allowed to go near the oven etc.

You could use a indoor lead to teach him how to just sit or lie down while your cooking.

Proberly best if its something you cover with your trainer when you get one

Also with any noise correcting things you should only use them for one thing at a time i.e. barking or soiling in the house. It can make it easier for the dog to understand and make sure you are using a word with the action to correct, i.e. barking say "no bark" firmly then good boy when he stops all happy and exicted. for keeping him away from cooking try using a firm "away" when you shake the bottle

He needs to learn to words so you can move away from using the bottle.

Re: New Dog Owner

Hehe! My dog hovers suspiously in the kitchen when the is cooking going on too- perfectly normal.
If i was u, so long as he doesn't try to steal any- i would let him stay where he is and if you have any dog treats I would chuck him the occasional treat and praise him for being such a good boy.
I'm glad sunny is doing well and that you u feel more confident now- we all have our moments when we feel down but it's great that your feeling upbeat. From what you say sunny seems to be making loads of progress in a short space of time!
All you have to do now is keep up the good work!!
