Im so upset after coming back from a walk.
Out on the usual route this morning with my 2 dogs, and I met 2 women (obviously friends out for a walk) and one of them had a large black mongrel dog on a halti.
As I met them, her dog stopped to greet mine, and suddenly out of nowhere, she hit it over the head with a horse whip!!!!!! then it tried to get its halti off with its 2 paws and she hit it again with the whip to get it to stop it. Then as she walked off, it was infront of her and nearly tripped her, so she turned and hit it down the back with the whip and shouting at it.
I was so horrified that i didnt speak, and now i am kicking myself that i didnt say anything. That poor dog is not only getting hit with a horse whip, but is getting hit for all the stupidest reasons. And if shes trying to get the dog to walk beside her using a halti, and shes whipping it when it is near her and annoying her....im sorry, but would you want to walk beside that????

im so cross with myself! i was nearly in tears i was so upset by it.

I don't blame you, that is awful. Dont be angry at yourself for not saying anything - sounds like you were in shock after seeing that! I think I would have reacted the same or I would have been scared if I said something she may whip me too

FFS Some people are really too stupid for words. I'd like to think I would have said something too, but on occasion even I'm left totally speechless.

Poor dog! It was probably better that you didn't say anything, as there was only one of you & two of them (& her friend doesn't sound any better a person if she is associating with that harpy) they could have turned on you & if she can hit a dog I would guess she might be just as capable of hitting a human.

In my eyes that is down right cruelty, that poor dog. But as things go around here, it could be the way and the only way she knows to 'train' a dog. as in her dad did it that way, and her granda did it that way. poor dog.

i think if i see her again, i'll definatly have to say something.

What an awful thing to have to witness. I can't believe someone would treat their pet like that. I'm not suprised you didn't say anything I'm sure I'd of been to shocked to respond.
How about walking the same time same route over the next few days and seeing if you can get some film on your mobile phone, discreetly following her to see where she lives and e-mailing the address and video to your dog warden.
