which is exactly what young pups do!
My pups dont charge at anything, they both approach other dogs slowly after looking at me for approval. If they charged around running up to all dogs like that and not listening or checking for approval I wouldn't let them off the lead around other dogs.

People are genuinly amazed at how well behaved our pups are, if Claire ever gets round to bringing Cassie up to play with Milo I'm sure she will back me up after seeing them. Just because they are young pups does not mean they haven't got manners.

Both my pups are allowed off the lead, their recall is as good as Milo's, if not better, it's like a race to get back first when I call them so I feel they deserve to be allowed to roam, I'm not going to restrict them to a lead for no good reason or call them back everytime I see another dog, unless it is on a lead.

I really do think that keeping them away from other people and dogs would be harmful to their development. Puppies (and dogs) need to socialise with people and dogs regularly.

If I had an aggresive dog, which I am confident will never happen, I would muzzle it when it was in public for it's own safety, it's just common sense.

i completely agree with you on that one though our dogs have been off leads since they were about 14 weeks - the only time they are on leads is when they are walking on roads - my house would be destroyed if the collie was kept on a lead!!!!! i love watching them run and play with other dogs - thats what a walks all about them having the chance to run free play, socalize and enjoy life - why should they be kept on leads if they not aggressive....??????

just because they are young dosent mean they dont know a recall any less than an older dog..... whos to say a dog of 8yrs will return on a recall and a puppy of 18 weeks wont....??????? that depends on their training and not they're age......

I think you may well be right, I've never ever seen dogs being aggresive on parks or woods around here. I wouldn't say the owners are all good but they obviously can't be that bad.

You do get the typical black Lab owners whose dogs follow you for half a mile while you listen to their owner repeating their name over and over and over, while they follow you. Dur!!!

I would rather have my dog muzzled and defend the dog myself than have a full on fight on my hands.

even if the pup had been on a lead it doesnt mean that it wouldnt have happened - if a dog is agressive it will attack lead or no lead - the only differnce is the pup wouldve been even more defensless if it'd been on a lead - as it wouldnt ve been able to struggle / defend itself.... agressive dogs need to be kept on leads and under control - puppys need to socalize and learn about the world.....
