Indeed... not yet...
I fail to see the point of the quoted post?
are you suggesting:

1. That you would "worry" about my thoughts if I were qualified?
or
2. That the information provided is incorrect?

If so please feel free to outline your extensive, considered and helpful advice to the originator of the thread regarding their legal position as I for one am all ears.

Re: Dog bites my dog

Thank you very much for your concerns.

I am trying to keep him still and calm as the vet stated but he's not having any of it.

He's a bit clumsy on his feet still after the sedation but he was straight to his food bowl demanding service as soon as he was through the front door.

He's looking at me now as if to ask "Why aren't we going out?" but I can't explain to him that a) he's still too drunk and b) I don't have a harness (the collar rubs on his wounds) until tomorrow. He does it every so often but then gets back to business chewing his pig's ear. I thought it was a good substitute for the grapes you usually get when you're ill, although I am sure he doesn't care about his injuries.

He'll be out again tomorrow along the canal and river banks as though nothing has happened.

The bites look awful.
I do suspect though that the owner of the other dog will also claim to have had little time to re-call before the two dogs met.

Yes, and that's cleared it up nicely and I feel for you in you situation. I don't think any blame lies with you, you were simply exercising your dog off lead as anyone who can control their non-aggresive dog is entitled to do. I think you are perfectly entitled to be pee'd off. The aggresive dog should have been on the lead or muzzled, preferably both.

I agree 100%, but knowing your dog is reactive in certain situations you would surely take precautions, or at least I would anyway. What one dog owner decides is right another will disagree and the case is the same in all manner of other things. I just thought she could have been a bit more pro-active and muzzled the dog. Then there are posters that have said that if a non-muzzled dog attacked their dog then they would want their dog to be able to fight back. I can see their point of view but having an aggressive dog is not natural and this type of behavior should be corrected.

At the end of it I am just glad to have him home, all be it with a few war wounds and even the cats have checked in on him, which is a first and hopefully of things to come at last as they usually won't go near him.

Don't under estimate talking to her, my Aunts dog was blind and leashed she was attacked by another dog that was off the leash. The owners of the dog paid for most of the vets fees, her wound was the whole of her back so she had to undergo lots of surgical procedures.

We have all missed one important point, try to find some friendly dogs to re-introduce your dog to. For every bad experience you need two or three good experiences so your dog does not become fearful and aggressive himself.

Some people may disagree but it worked for me and Duke. There may be other forum members who can give you constructive advice.

Those injuries are really bad I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Sue

Re: Dog bites my dog

Poor dog, hope he's feeling better tomorrow.

My dog was attacked right outside my mums driveway by a neighbours dog. My dog (she was my mums dog then) was on a lead and the neighbours dog ran out, across the road and then attacked her. This dog was preiviously friendly towards her but that day it wasn't. The neighbour couldn't understand why my mum and dad were upset with him and his dog and didn't see anything wrong with not calling his dog back when he saw it run out - he wouldn't even contribute towards any costs or say sorry for what had happened.

As a result she was nearly pts as she wouldn't go outside even to pee and I took her in to see if it was to do with being close to the place where the attack took place. She is now very frightened of any other dogs - my mums other two dogs included, if she sees a white dog she almost pees herself, and no amount of introducing her to other really friendly dogs has helped - I've had her for over 3 years now and she's still very nervous of dogs both on and off their leads, she's always on a lead when she is out of the house, she will do a perfect recall so occasionally in the summer when we're up the mountain I will let her off the lead but there's always 2 of us with her, 1 watching the dog and the other watching for other people and dogs as I don't know what her reaction would be towards a dog running up to her to play or just say hello (fight or flight).

Re: Dog bites my dog

what an awful thing to happen. I hope your dog makes a speedy recovery - poor thing and I hope she isnt frigtened by the incident. I know that my dog will go for another dog if it gets too close as she has been attacked a few times. If I see another dog anywhere near us I either pick her up or put her on her lead. Other dog owners say that their dogs are friendly but I know that Toots gets frightened and overcome quickly and will go for them. The other dog owner should have either put her dog on its lead or shouted to you to let you know to recall your dog. Good luck with the other dog owner - I hope they at least listen to you so that it never happens again.
