i see what you are saying but i dont think cassie suffers for not being off the lead either

In the scenario you have painted the other dog may well have just carried on minding it's own!!

My train of thought is, if you don't want incidents like this to happen then perfect your pets recall or keep the dog on a lead.

hth
I agree with you on this one. You have reiterated my first post.

I should have been clearer with my second post too, I don't think a claim would be successful either which was why I suggested free legal advice.

The original post did read that the pup ran off to say hello, indicating the pup didn't respond to recall. The lady owner was able to restrain her aggressive dog indicating she had control of her dog.

In situations where I haven't seen the other dog and Duke's ran off to say a hello, more often than not if the other dog is on a leash the owner will let it go. Nothing wrong with that either, in some cases dogs can show aggression on the leash but be fine off the leash.

No problem with your post you have used a keyword obedient, I have come across aggressive dogs off the leash that have responded to the owner. I'm not comfy with an aggressive dog being off the leash but provided there isn't an incident then that's fine too.

Re: Dog bites my dog

I have to agree there, my two Gsds are great off leash and friendly towards other dogs and come on recall, but on leash they are terrible towards other dogs and i have a job to hold them back, even in van they bark at any other dog passing, i can only think its because they are restricted while on leash while other dogs are running free, but im to frightend to let them off leash as they are only 12 mths old and both have been attacked by free running dogs, whos owners are 1/2 a mile behind them with no control whatsoever, just a personal opinion.

By the way, to the OP, i wasn't having a go...

My posts are my personal opinion based on experiences...
I can see both sides of this argument, not that I'm sayin its an argument but u know wot I mean!

Sandy my spaniel is always off the lead as she never strays more than a few feet from where we are, the amount of times I have had her squeal with real fear when big dogs come bounding at her at a rate of knots. She isn't a wimp and isnt generally afraid of other dogs but when they charge at her like that she gets terrified and it can often be weeks b4 she gets her confidence back to a point sometimes she wont get out the car.

I get cross when people have seemingly no control over their dogs and even when they recall the dogs completely ignores them. I understand that those dogs didnt approach the injured one but really and honestly if you knew you dog wasn't dog friendly would you let it run free where other dogs are likely to be.....I wouldn't, but saying that if he come charging up to sandy being friendly or not she would have been genuinely scared by that too so it really works both ways.

Also, no indication was given that the dog has a poor recall. I allow my dogs to say hello to any dog we come across that is off lead that doesn't mean they have poor recall. I only put them on lead when other dogs are around on the lead.

In my opinion all aggresive dogs should be muzzled and on a lead. How irresponsible to have an aggresive dog off lead!
Sorry but i dont agree.I would never muzzle my dog aggressive dog.
I have been jumped on no-end of times by dogs who are off lead with idiot owners who think they own the world and its their right to let their dog roam.

My dog will not jump at other dogs when on walks and even when we stop to chat he will sit with his eye on them, but i will not muzzle him so he can be jumped on by other dogs and idiots who have no control over their dogs can have and easy time of exersizing their dogs .

I am fed up of having to shout at people can you get your dog away, for them to shout back he's ok,when the bl@@dy thing is growling at my dogs why should i let my dog be jumped over when he doesnt want to be?

Would you appreciate me running up to you from behind a bush and indecently groping and jumping over you??Because that is how it is for my dogs when we have a huge Lab or BC launch themself at us

I help out our local rescue and when i am out with a shy dog rehabilitating it i dont want it to have a bad experience and set it back again.

Yes, where have I said otherwise? If you cant recall a dog it shouldn't be off lead. I think confusion has arose from the OP slightly contradicting posts.
