Re: Dog bites my dog
Unfortunately u live and learn I think u will have to forget legal action on this one but I would report this to the police and your dog warden in case it ever has a child, as the woman has no recall. My neighbour has an aggressive dog who he lets out to wander instead of walking him and it really annoys me as I cannot even take mine out on a lead as he attacks him if he is out, I am trying to stay friends at the moment but I will take action if necessary as I like to think that I am responsible and as they are both terriers there will be a lot of damage if they fight, which I have tried to point out to my neighbour but he is a bit dim. Anyway hope your dog is ok, why dont you try agility classes, we take our terrier and he loves it and he also socialises in a controlled way. The borders there are fantastic.

My dog has no problem with other dogs in any way, does not jump at people and has never been an issue with my toddler nieces. The reason we got him from the breeders we did was because the whole pack (about 15 of them) was extremely placid and he has been ever since we got him. then you have a dog that is know to attack other dogs and has the ability to cause serious damage. Which would you rather have kept on a lead? Ok, lets look at it in the way you are stating. My dog is on a lead and we are walking the same route, verything, nothing has changed other than my dog is on a lead. Suddenly we come over the top of the rise and there are two other dogs but they are not muzzled and not on a lead and one is know to the owner as dog aggressive. The said dog grabs mine by the neck, throws him to the ground and then shakes him. All of this happens in a split second. The results are the same. What's your view on that? If, however, in the other incident with a dog aggressive dog the other dog is on a lead, mine goes over to say hello but the owner shouts "Get you dog mine is not safe to others!" at which point I call mine back and he comes. I'd like to know you thoughts on both situations as to who's the most responsible and who is responsible for a dog aggressive dog on a moor where there are free-roaming dogs on every path? |

Re: Dog bites my dog
My opinion for whats it's worth,no dog should ever be off lead without reliable recall even with distractions, unfortunatly your dog got injured and I hope he will be ok,but if your dog had been onlead you could have had a controlled situation and this could have been avoided.
Unfortunatly you will meet numpties everywhere with dogs off lead with no recall,my bitch hates loose dogs running at her and she is always on lead as she does dislike some dogs, unfortunatly this doesn't make much difference to the idiotic owners who don't pay any attention to what there dog is doing. In the eyes of the law at least my dog is under control on lead if there off lead dog gets bitten then tough, they should control there dog.

Re: Dog bites my dog
i hve to agree with dh... i keep or dog on a lead most of the time (99%), i would only let her off around people n dog we knew and i something happened to her when she was off i would blame myself for letting her of because as your story proves,,,, its not safe for dogs to be off the lead

Re: Dog bites my dog
I dont think dh.dti is trying to say that you are fully to blame, just that even if her dogs were on leads and yours ran over to be friendly and say hello the other persons dog could of still grabbed yours by the throat and flung it to the floor, In a perfect world all the friendly dogs would be bouncing around fields sniffing other dogs and greeting perfectly but in this world, we cant even trust each other never mind what dog is going to behave like what. I personally think that due to the amount of morons owning dogs and training them to be aggressive, for the safety of our own pets, it would do us a favour to keep them on the lead, I know its a shame and i do feel sorry for you having to go through what you did, but unfortunatly if both sets of dogs were on leads neither would have got to the other until a quick greet was exchanged by owners.

Re: Dog bites my dog
Well I for one let my dogs off the lead 99% of the time, I only put them on lead when there is a dog I don't know that is on lead or by roads. That will never change.
My dogs get the freedom they deserve and I firmly believe that all non-aggresive, obedient dogs should get that privlege and not be punished for other dogs actions. |
