Re: Dog bites my dog

I know where you are coming from Katy but with the state my breeds reputation is in I wont allow one of my dogs to be blamed for anything - it seems theres a shoot to kill policy in operation where loose Rotts are concerned and just on the off chance that my dogs ignored me when they were distracted I wont let them off if I think there are other dogs around/ After all unless your dog has been in every situation how can you say their recall is 100% - all you can say is 'up til now its been 100%' theres always a first time because so many people forget - they are DOGS

Re: Dog bites my dog

Just be thankful your dog was big enough to withstand the attack.

A friend of a friend has just lost two Chihauhaus to a Staffie attack. Staffies were off the lead and roaming, the Chis (totally under control) had no chance.

Well I would hate to think how mine would sort it out,if they were left to sort it out it would result in a badly injured or dead dog.

I decided to take Megs down to the harbour this morning,we walked a little way and encountered a woman with a lead around her neck,no dog, after seeing Meg onlead she went to get her dog, guess what she couldn't find it,I spotted it before the owner did,she had no control or recall whatsoever now had that dog approached Meg because it was bigger than she is she would have had a major problem with it,Meg doesn't growl or give any warning apart from her ackles coming up.
But It's silly season whereby all the numpty fair weather walkers are out.I get so frustrated with other owners who can't do a damn thing with there offlead out of control dogs,so if as a result of it there dog happens to get bitten then so be it,my dog is onlead under control!

Exactly! But you cant tell some people. Perhaps they have never really seen what happens when two dogs go at it

Still, even though I wouldnt be the owner of the loose dog and I have no responsibility over it, I will carry on looking out for the wellfare of it by keeping mine on a lead.
What a world we live in!

Those owners get on my nerves too, it's amazing how much busier the places we walk are in summer and usually they are clueless as you said. However all my dogs are non-aggresive. Milo will only fight if there is absolutly no way of getting away from the situation, Jayjay seems to be going the same way and Trinny will just run back to me at the first sign of any trouble.

I encountered an idiot with an aggresive dog off lead today, it approached my three who were drinking out the pond and then growled and started snapping when they turned to introduce themselves. They all reacted as stated above and the other dog walked off, the owner didn't even attempt a recall, just stood there and watched. It does make me think when things like this happen but I refuse to punish my well behaved, friendly dogs because of idiots like this.

Re: Dog bites my dog

my bull terrier was running lose in a feild once when a loose rotty came over allso running loose ! The owner at first was nowhere to be seen the dog started barking at me wich i gotta say scared the Fcuk outa me, then it barked at my bull terrier but started trying playing vey rough ,the dog became more and more fierce snapping at my dog ! So i thought i better stick my dog on his lead,as i did all hell broke out and enevitavle fight started ! my dog started ripping lumps and lumps of black hair out of this rotty ! so i dived in between them trying my hardest to stop it! by this time my dog had locked his jaw on the rottys ear and wasnt letting go ! my heart was pounding more than if i was in a boxing ring as ever time i tryed to get my dog off, the other dog went for me ! What made it worse was because my dog was on his lead ,the lead had got tangled around my legs and had pulled me between them! then the owner showed up who was a girl and all of about 8st and about 18yrs with no lead for her dog that was 11stone! when we managed to get them apart the rottys ear was in a bad way ! it was bleeding and needed to go to the vet whom at to stich it back on! mmy dog wasnt hurt atall realy but did loose the tip of one of his big front teeth

Re: Dog bites my dog

It is so annoying when other people cannot control their dogs. Whenever we saw another dog we put Prince on the lead because he was horribly aggressive towards other dogs. I always used to call out and let other people know my dog did not like other dogs. It used to amaze me how other dogs would run up to mine, who was under control, and then the stupid owner would stand there going 'come on' and waving a treat. Like that was going to make the damn dog come back.

Re: Dog bites my dog

I think the point everyone is saying here loud and clear is that we all know our dogs irrespective of breed and we all handle the situation/walks as we see fit in the best interests of our dogs.

I can control my dog better on the leash than by verbal command. I am getting really good at controlling a loose dog at the same time. It used to be a nightmare but its getting easier as I have had loads of practice.

Re: Dog bites my dog

Just reading garys post made me anxious, when my bullterrier got attacked by a loose dog, he retaliated so quick the other dog didnt know what had happened, we found the whole thing horiffic my dog was very stressed we had to put damp towels on him when we got home to cool him down and try to calm him, what made it worse was their idiot owner blamed us simply because our dog retaliated. He also was punching our dog to make him release my husband was trying to get samson to release as well as deal with this idiot, in the end my husband grabbed him by the throat and pushed him away. Our dog is very nervous now and very jumpy when out, if ever you are unfortunate enough to come across a loose dog who is not dog friendly and a fight takes place it certainly has an effect.
