DNA testing crossbreeds

I read in one of my magazines that a testing kit has come over from America that allows you to take a swab from inside your dogs cheek to send off and be tested to decode what your crossbreed is made up of. So that heinz57 will be able to be decoded and you'll know exactly what you've got. I am curious about this although I don't have a dog anymore it seems a nice idea to be able to discover what breed that mongrel you got from the rescue centre is actually made up of through the simple test.

Your thoughts?

Re: DNA testing crossbreeds

We actually discussed this on a previous thread. I think someone got it done on their dog. I would love to get my dog tested coz he really is a Heinz!! There's lots of different types of dogs in him & it would be nice to find out what they are

Re: DNA testing crossbreeds

Very interesting. The reason i say that is because IF someone should breed from such a dog it MIGHT help to determin what the offspring would look like.

Re: DNA testing crossbreeds

I would love to know what breeds went together to make Cromwell (so I can avoid ever mixing it by accident!! ) he's a good old fashioned mutt so I can't begin to figure out his hereitage! Also I'd like to know for definate what cross Sidney is, so I could actively search out his cross as I'd love another dog like him..not that there will ever be another Sidney but you know what I mean.
