Hi all ! dilema , we have a female golden lab called Daisy she is the best dog in the world honest !! but then i am biased she is nearly 11 months old really well behaved ( most of the time ,never chews things, friendly, calm and loving ) so my problem is we are considdering getting another, do i get another female or a male lab, i have no intention to breed just want to keep as pets. does anyone have an opinion on wheather 2 females work better together or a male and female. so far ive looked just at girls and was wondering about a chocolate or black dog. you never know i could end up with all 3 colours lol . no seriosly i probably will at some point . your views greatly awiated .... andrea.

I grew up all my life with Male dogs and got my first bitch about 3 years ago and i have to say i do prefer female to male dogs now. Sometimes bitches don't get on aswell with eachother when they get a bit older so you might be better getting a male and getting him done or getting your bitch spayed.

I would say go for a male & as you are not going to breed them have them both done.

same here get a male to go with her and get them done

you always go for the other sex to what you got saves trouble later on

hiya, i breed bulldogs and personally prefer bitches. i find dogs a lot more boustrous and harderto handle than bitches. so if it was me i would get another bitch but i dont know how 2 bitches are together??

Andrea, PLEASE do NOT get another female. I am not saying that two of the same sex cannot get along, but the ideal partnership is a male and female.

Female will be boss and male will follow viola, perfect harmony.

Male labs are not as bidable on the whole as bitches, keeping two dogs of the same sex sometimes, but not always needs careful management, but it really does depend on the characters of the dogs involved. You seem to have got a good one with the bitch you've got, return to the same breeder if possible.

I think it all depends on what your girl is like - whats she like around other dogs?? Does she get along with both male and female??? Has she been introduced to puppies before adn if so how does she react?
2 females do get along in the right environment with no problems at all, if you get them both done there will be no hormones flying about when they are a little older.
Female is not always the boss - I really think its down to what Diasy's temperament is ......2 females can get along just like male and female can get along....
