Springer/Cocker cross

Hi,

Does anyone out there know of anyone who has a new litter or expecting a litter of Springer/Cocker spaniel crosses that are available for the end of Oct/beginning of November? I've found a couple of gorgeous litters but they're always reserved!

thanks

Re: Springer/Cocker cross

I wouldn't like a cocker but am definitely looking at Springers - the only thing that worried me is that my Auntie used to have a fairly boisterous one that was quite powerful and kept knocking me over (I was only young then though and it was probably her lack of training!) I thought if I had a cross then it would be a little smaller!

I've got a cocker and a springer the cocker was more of a nipper than the springer, you can get small springer's If you've got the time to spend on them the working springer is smaller My boy's two now and has calmed right down now his still got a lot of energy though

Re: Springer/Cocker cross

i have 2 cokers and 13 springers. Ok 11 are only pups lol but their Mum is the bigger springer and she was lively as a pup but of course settled down and i have a smaller petite springer and she has always been laid back

But of course everydog is different and with the right training you will have a perfect dog

Re: Springer/Cocker cross

If you don't like cockers, then why are you getting a cross? The pup could turn out to be more cocker than springer. I guess you want a small springer. Why not just find either a working springer, or a show springer from small parents if you are looking for a calmer temperament.

Re: Springer/Cocker cross

Iouldnt be put off with the size of the springer i have had 3 2 at the moment and have all been different sizes our youngest female is quite small in fact i have seen cockers bigger than her, there is no guarentee that you will get a smaller dog by getting a cross.

Re: Springer/Cocker cross

springer cocker crosses usually come as the working types, this means youll have a very very fast little dog that is serious high energy, working cockers are emense in the field and working springers are basically their bigger cousins so will have a never say die attitude.
Your going to have to put a huge amount of training into a springer cocker if you want it anywhere near obedient - if youve never owned either of the breeds before id say get a purebred first. They are not as dramatic a dog as youve had experience of - they simply need good ownership and plenty of training, once theyve got this youve basically got a great versatile pet. But a springer cocker is a very (huuuuuge) big challenged id say...
(they have the looks of a small and unassuming dog which is misleading, they infact they like nothing better than tearing apart an ache of greenbelt lol their looks could easily catch you out)
