i thought perhaps jumping on chairs and laps regularly might cause joint problems in smaller dogs? One of mine seems to get a random 'joint' pain for no good reason - recovers if left alone for a couple of hours.

He walked 5 miles the other day with no problems - so thought it could be jumping.

Bramble loves jumping, It's hard to get him to stop, his favourite is flying off the bed or sofa, or running down the stairs and taking a leap from the 5th step!

We were told not to allow our small dogs to jump on chairs etc untill they were at least a year old.

Mine love jumping and as long as they're fully grown in some breeds you're talking nearly 3 years danes/wolfhound etc then theres no problems.
