There has been only two occasion when one of our dogs have howled: -

One dog Shep used to howl when we played the piano (it was certain notes that would trigger it).

Once when friends came round he avoided them as if there were an invisible boundary that he couldn't pass and then went off to the otherside of the room and constantly howled. Our friend had cancer and died shortly after his visit.

I am not familiar with the Akita so I cannot give an opinion.

thanks for all the advice i seem to think its just her way of being gobby cos she is very verbal, always chuntering to herself lol

our northern inuits howl like mad when police sirein is going past the people on the street stop and say omg thats great
