Re: puppy parties/ obedience classes

yes straight away to obedience classes, i wouldnt even bother with puppy classes as they all ready know how to play with other pups.
my merlin only had 1 injection and took him along to ringcraft classes to sit and watch on my lap. when he has had his second one he will got to training classes as well as ringcraft.

Re: puppy parties/ obedience classes

Soscialisation is best started early , our vets do puppy parties , we were very lucky in that when we first got Daisy and started taking her to the local park there were about 5 other people who had all got pups at the same sort of time so we made our own little walking group where we would meet up each day to let the dogs play and interact with people and other dogs . Training classes would be a good idea again it brings them into contact with other people and dogs and with a dog such as vegas you will need to make sure you have good controll of her because she will out power you in no time at all .

Re: puppy parties/ obedience classes

I would do the puppy parties as not all pups are as confident with other dogs. You can go to puppy parties once she has had her first vaccination.

Once she has had her second vaccination try and take her to as many different places to meet other dogs and people and expose her to as many different things as possible.

Both are a good idea. Puppy socialisation classes are usually free at your vets these days - it is worth enquiring.

Re: puppy parties/ obedience classes

I think they're great for both dog and owner, really helped my pups confidence and mine (as he is my first dog).

Just make sure you find a good school, I used royvon I think they have a few centres in the uk. They have proper facitlies with indor and outdoor trainning areas, I wouldn't recommed a school that meets in a village hall.

At the one we went to they did three things:

Pass The Puppy; where you pass the pups round a circle of people and each person looks at their teeth, in their ears and feels all their paws and then passes the pup to the next person. It gets them used to being handled by different people.

Meet And Greet; all the owners take it in turns to walk around the circle and meet each puppy in as calm a fashion as possible, this is to teach them how to behave around other dogs when on the lead.

Playtime; a free for all where the puppies play amongst themselves, all the owners have to ignore the dogs if they come up to them, this is to build confidence and encourage some independance. It also gives a good opportunity for owners to ask attending veterinary nurses and staff about any problems or queries.

Our two pups only went three times before they "graduated", due to them being so dominant and confident.
