Dog killed - RSPCA do nothing.

BBC NEWS | England | Sussex | Dog 'killed with hoe' in dispute

I can't believe the RSPCA did nothing in this case.

Specifically:
Quote:
The dog was put to sleep later that night and the matter was referred to the RSPCA but it did not prosecute Mr Hill because the dog did not suffer undue pain.
The dog was clouted over the head with a garden hoe during the day, fracturing its skull, and had to be pts that evening.
And it didn't suffer undue pain? How the hell much is an acceptable amount of pain then, in the RSPCA's eyes?

Cool Re: Dog killed - RSPCA do nothing.

Nothing surprises me. I was a dog warden for 4 years and the worst case I encountered was a dog literally rotting to death from a skin infection that I had to (literally) pick up off a garden it had gone into to die. I took it to be pts straight away and reported the matter to the RSPCA. Myself and the Inspector spent ages putting the case together and the head office threw it out with a written caution to the owner. (who I traced the day after finding the dog) The owner had claimed that her 10 year old daughter was supposed to be bathing the dog - this is despite the fact that it stank of death and had a maggot ridden hole where its right eye should have been! The head office saw no reason to prosecute the owner for neglect. The Inspector was as disgusted as I was and could not meet my eyes when he told me of the outcome.

I am, not anti-RSPCA, but there is defintely room for improvement!

Re: Dog killed - RSPCA do nothing.

This was just on the BBC news. They claim the dog was brain dead instantly, and didnt suffer any pain.

I think the owners are paying for a private prosecution now.

Thumbs down Re: Dog killed - RSPCA do nothing.

The RSPCA don't have enough power to prosecute, there has to be a number of visits before they can be prosecuted for animal cruelty... its the same with child cruelty.... Cases like this happen on a regular basis... The RSPCA need to have a more stronger opinion on things like this and should be able to prosecute and take dangered animals out of that environment but they can't

Re: Dog killed - RSPCA do nothing.

What's the point of the RSPCA if they're not going to act when they're needed the most?? Undue pain my hat. He killed, he murdered, a dog and he should be treated like a killer. And killers go to prison.

Re: Dog killed - RSPCA do nothing.

Wasn't the recent welfare bill supposed to improve their ability to take action sooner and prevent suffering?

I don't really see how it can be ok to whack an animal to death aslong as you were lucky to possibly not cause it any pain in the process. I wonder if it has something to do with him protecting the chickens on his property.

Exactly. Are they saying that to have offically done something wrong you needed to beat the creature to death?
Disgraceful.

Re: Dog killed - RSPCA do nothing.

Its like the guy with the horses last yr, he used them for horse meat yet some of them were dying if not died due to starvation and he got i think 6 months in prison a fine AND he even got some of the horses back... its ridiculous... There should be a thing that everyone should sign to get laws stronger, the new welfare bill is crap it still doesnt give the RSPCA as much power as what they could have... its sickening to see many animals being treated cruely, the person in charge/ owner should have the same done to them same as child cruelty.... A life for a life, pts or naturally, it should still stand

Re: Dog killed - RSPCA do nothing.

To be honest having heard a shocking story unfold over a few months about a lady who had to fight to get her elderly horses back from the RSPCA even though they were already under her vets care. I'm not sure as the organisation is at the moment i'd want them to have more power, however i do agree that there needs to be better protection for animals & harsher punishments.
