Re: Am I doing ok with Bobby!

You're doing a great job with him my dogs said to tell you they're packing up their food and toys and coming to live with you. Springers are fantastic dogs and learn really quickly you'll be amazed.

Re: Am I doing ok with Bobby!

it sounds like your doing quite a bit of walking for his age, is it on or off lead?

My spaniels 6 mths and hes only getting 40mins as a max per day. We have taken him longer obviously but this might be once a month where we visit national parks and the like. Sounds like your doing well though, around that age concentrating on things like work i found unbelievably hard - he seemed to be in and out of everything and needing corrections every 5 minutes (I have 2)

Id watch him going into the garden - things like slugs are very bad for them unless they have had appropriate worm lung treatment. I might just have a messy garden but the amount of stones/plants/watering cans he got hold of I was constantly taking things out of his mouth.

If he has free reign of the garden watch out for him ever suddenly going off his food or looking like hes tying to be sick - get him to the vets asap as he could have swallowed something

ps are you doing any training with him? classes i mean - he will thrive on these

Re: Am I doing ok with Bobby!

Thanks for your comments, he walks on the lead for about 5-10 mins of his morning walk and 5 mins of his lunchtime walk, his evening one is off the lead on the beach or in the Park but I will take comments on board and ensure we dont walk him too long but he never lays down so I think he is fine with it.

Our Garden is a blank canvass at the moment as we only moved in 1 year ago and so its just Lawn and some pots, I de slug every morning and evening so I dont think he finds them so apart from some eating of grass and the odd leaf from the pot he hasnt got much to get his hands on!!

I think we are lucky, he has learned from an early age that when I am working he has to be a good boy and seems to accept that, I play with him and train him and he is in the same room as me so I think he accepts that!!

We are doing puppy training at the moment, had 2 lessons so far and he has picked it all up very well! another one tonight!!

Sorry, I don't mean to poke my nose in but just thought I'd say.. it's not that the puppy can't handle the exercise, they have tons of energy, they won't get tired! Its the strain on the joints that cause problems later in life. You won't know about it till 2 years down the line.
