bee ntrying to trim his paws for 2 days. little sod has got hands like mr jekyll, all furry lol.

i gotta get them done for sunday and he is playing really hard to get. might have to enlist help lol. hold him and play while i trim his hairy feet.

either that or lash him to the table.

What's he do when you cut his claws?

i had him done at the shop, he was good as gold.
he thinks it's a game when i try to trim his feet lol. not scared or anything just wants to play.

i'll hold him later while the mrs trims him. should be fun.

What type of dog Dave? My friend is a groomer and specialises in large/giant breeds but you'd have to travel to Chorley

When I feel blue, I start breathing again

It does take a bit of settling, and this is the only time I ever use a treat - i give one after each paw is done - or if hes settled after the front two paws and then the rears.

If you get them into a sit, kneel down facing them with your chest resting into their head, you can pick the paw up and using the ankle fold it back towards their rear eand which presents the underside of the paw perfectly. One hand holds the ankle the other you cut with ...
You have to be very careful though - the webbing between the claws raises in the middle of the pad so its best to splay the pad out fully before closer trimming between the toes.
Before this is done however put your finger between each claw and pull the hairs upwards to get a sprout (when the paw is flat on the floor) trim this hair off first as it will save time when your doing the pad side.

get a treat and given it them. I have to do this every 3 months id say as they harbour moisture and result in itching and biting

well i have tried, and failed miserably lol.

went through nearly a bag of doggy chocs too.

so it looks like an appointment at the groomers for friday or saturday.

i will have him tidied up a bit at the same time i think, the groomer is a good one and comes recommended and she has experience with goldens so hopefully she'll do a good job.

so never having successfully groomed any of my dogs before i might have to have some lessons.

now if i could put him in a vice and use a plane or a sander i'd be ok. but this scissor malarky is way too delicate for my lumpsy hands lol.

You could use a Dremmel, that's what my friend uses on claws to get a nice rounded and smooth finish.

I used to have a problem doing my oldest dogs feet, the hairs between his toes and his nails.
The thing is, you have to hold him quite firmly, I get him to lie down as it's easier that way and I just trim a little bit at a time with my tiny curved scissors. The nails are a bit more difficult but I'll never trust a groomer to do them again as he came home with bleeding toenails the first time and it really upset me... and I'm guessing it probably hurt him too. I take a slither at a time until I see the little dark dot which is the quick

You'd be lucky to get in for Friday wouldn't you? We have to wait three weeks to get an appointment at ours.

i got in for this afternoon if i can take him down as soon as she calls me.

only gonna have his paw fur done and a tail tidy up really.

his nails get clipped at the groomers anyway.
