My border terrier x has her legs straight out behind her when she lays down, she then drags herself around the floor by her front legs making funny noises!i always think they look like they have been rolled over by a steam roller!

Same with my dog ^
He'll lay flat out on his back in the middle of the room and wag his tail, mouth wide open. Cause he knows it's too cute to ignore. XD

Re: How come some breeds of dogs can sit with?

I had never seen a dog lay in a position where their hind legs are splayed out behind them until I saw Duke do it and I assumed it was a Staffie thing - just goes to show.

I worry in case it induces arthritis in later life. Although I haven't stopped him from laying in that position as he seems comfortable.

Duke also sits on one side with both hind legs out at an angle. Best way to describe it is side saddle. Quite comical really.

Our Nel does it still occasionally - when he was a pup he was like that loads - looked like a wishbone just waiting to be pulled
