Re: Ok...im after ideas!!!
Carry her around to get her used to traffic noises - refuge trucks, lorries, cars etc - also to get her used to other people outside your circle of friends and family and pushchairs, bikes etc. I started doing this with Pippa a few days after she came home and it's paid off now she is allowed out on walks

Re: Ok...im after ideas!!!
I got my pups 2 weeks ago. They have a puppy party at the vets soon and they are booked in for puppy classes.
I also carry them round and they love it. Not spooked by any noises at all

Re: Ok...im after ideas!!!
Sounds like you are doing great - visiting friends with vaccinated dogs is a fab idea.
I carried mine around town. Here are some of the things I did. Stood at the bus stop, as the buses came and went. Spoke to people on mobility scooters and bicycles. Stood at the horses field near by to get them used to horses. Sat on the park bench and watched the world go by Sat in the vets waiting room and did some training, now my 2 love going to the vets, I did this before and after there jabs and ops so they don't think the vet is a scary place. |

Re: Ok...im after ideas!!!
I have a rescue dog that is not properly socialised with other dogs so I really think it's important to let the puppy meet other dogs of different types. My dog accepts certain kinds of dogs, those that look "normal", but not dogs that are different in any way (for example really big dogs, dogs with a lot of fur or dogs with very flat noses). If the puppy learns from a young age that dogs comes in all shapes and sizes it is more likely to be friendly with other dogs.
With previous dogs I have socialised them just by bringing them with me almost everywhere: to visit friends, to the dog training club, to town, to the country, on the bus, on the train etc. |
