I would go back to basics with him and take him out regularly - go out with him, don't expect him to go by himself, and praise him when he goes outside.

TBH, leaving a 7/8 month old puppy alone all day is not ideal and certainly won't help. Can you get someone to call in a few times and take him out while your is away. Leaving him all that time certainly won't help with the SA either if that is the cause.
Dundee he is not left alone all day my sister has been home with him everyday since day one! Although now its going to be different with her leaving the country blah!!!

Re: You would think a 7 month-nearly 8 month old puppy would be toilet trained by now

Hi ya AD i don't think its all down to training hun, believe it or not my 1st poodle i had years ago took 18 months to become clean, not that he peed or pooped everyday. And another thing the little beggar would do was, if i allowed him to sleep in one of my kids bedroom (as a treat for my kids) the next night when i said no you could say for sure he would poo in the kitchen.I look back and laugh now but i didn't at the time.
ps. i forgot to add, both mia and kai still have accidents.

It doesnt sound like a house training problem, it is a stress thing. Crating might well work and break the cycle before it becomes a habit.

Candy is 6 months and I still dont trust her. She has been clean at night and when I leave her since she was a baby but I, like you, have the door open all the time and if it shut in bad weather I cant totally trust her.
