Re: what exactly is a lurcher????

I think it's a type of dog, crosses, not a breed.

Apparently they can be the following;

Saluki x Greyhound
Bedlington Terrier x Whippet
Bearded Collie x Greyhound
Border Collie x Greyhound
Border Collie x Deerhound
Jack Russell Terrier x Whippet

I'm sure someone more experienced can tell you more!

Re: what exactly is a lurcher????

I think its sighthound x with terriers, bully breeds or collies but I could be very wrong. Its definately more a type than a breed makes some gorgeous dogs though. According to Wiki so god only knows how reliable this is its any sighthound cross I know a whippet lurcher and an afghan lurcher who is a ridiculously beautiful dog. They were bred because keeping sighthounds was forbidden to anyone of lower classes so they bred them with other dogs so they didn't look like sighthounds but still had the characteristics.

Re: what exactly is a lurcher????

As far as I'm aware a lurcher is a grey crossed with any other breed of dog.

Re: what exactly is a lurcher????

All the ones I've met are great including the ones doing the racing at the game fair we were at. One was even smart enough when they were running around 3 sides of the field the dog just ran to end of the course straight across the field lol.

Re: what exactly is a lurcher????

A lurcher is a cross between any sighthound breed and another breed usually a terrier or a pastoral breed eg collie.

A sighthound crossed with a sighthound is a longdog but are generaly refered to as lurchers. Therefor a saluki crossed with a greyhound would be a longdog but a whippet cross with a bedlinton is a lurcher
