Re: Chinese crested cross chihuahua

I am not necessarily adovcating but I will argue the case. How exactly did any of our much respected breeds come about. IF there are people (misguided or not) wanting these crosses then better they are bred responsibly. Cockerpoos have been around since the 70s and labradoodles for nearly as long. A labrador pup will probably cost between £400 and £600 and a poodle pup is more like £600 to £800. Cockerpoos seem to go for around £600 and labradoodles are sometimes far more. I think that all those prices are ridiculous but then I dont earn much money so I cant afford it. I actually said that the designer dogs are often twice what their purebred parents would be, not the other way round. I have seem lhasa's advertised for £400 and lhasa cross poodles for far more than that, same with the cavaliers. And jack russel crosses.

Most breeders probably dont want to breed crosses but some do and why on earth should it be a crime to make money out of it. It is an expensive and time consuming hobby/business so the pups have to cost money.

Sequeena, why do you think designer breeds will end up in rescue any more than pure breeds. Staffies and lurchers seem the most common so should they not be bred any more by enthusiasts or maybe breed them but give them away so no one has risked wasting money on them when they are fed up with them. And lurchers are a crossbred or often a good old mixed mongrel but no one objects to calling them by their generic name.

I agree, lots of purebreds are in rescues too. So if purebreds are in there then why not crosses?

It's my opinion that people who intentionally buy labradoodles and the like want them because they are new thing. What happens when these dogs go out of fashion?

I'm not saying that everyone has this mindset but those few people who do will quickly get fed up, realise that their dog is a lot more work than they thought, pass them on to someone else then get a new dog.

I say this because my sister's ex boyfriend was the same. The amount of staffs and GSDs he brought home was ridiculous and it's a horrible thing.

Re: Chinese crested cross chihuahua

I know people have strong opinions on cross breeding, but the OP didn't want to cause an arguement, I'm sure. They just wanted advice on what to look for.

This pup has already been bred, so surley it would be best to get it a loving home? The price of this pup is below the price of a chi or hairless chinese crested, so I don't think it's overpriced if you look at it that way.

Any news on the pup yet??

Hi thanks for the people that actually gave advice, she didnt get the pup as it temperment was a little to shy and would not even come near her. She was really cute in a funky kind of way and she will make someone a very sweet quirky pet, but this was not the one for my friend.

Yeah I think she was a bit disapointed, especially after a nearly 3 hour drive at least she made the right decision for her

I agree, this thread isnt the place for a designer breed debate

Awww, I'm sorry that she wasn't quite what your friend was looking for, but your friend did the best thing to not take her home. I'm sure the pup will find a loving home soon, and the perfect pup will turn up for your friend too.
