Re: Do you leave your dog in the car???

Yep - she comes with me to drop and collect my son to and from school 90% of the time. She stays in for 20 minutes maximum. Sometimes on an afternoon she comes to the gates to meet him with me. Also she stays in the car if i stop at the shop on the way to anywhere. I'd rather bring her with me than keep her stuck at home. I like her to be stimuated and be part of our family, so she joins in rather than being stuck at home on her own - that seems mean to me. On a really hot summer's day, i will rethink the logistics and keep all windows open if she has to come along, as dogs in cars on hot days makes me feel uncomfortable and worried to be honest.

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car???

I'm genuinely suprised to read so many people don't leave the dogs in the car.

At any point in the year ie even when it's not hot?
Does no one take their dogs in the car at all then?
Even further afield for long walks?
If so, surely you need to stop for petrol at somepoint?

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car???

I have always had my dogs in the car - going back over 30 years. Most of my friends do too. I had one in the car the other day for about an hour while I was doing things in town. If we go on the ferry to Aberdeen the dogs are in the car all night. So long as they are not over heating I can see nothing wrong with it. A lot of us used to go for a drink after dog training and all the dogs sat in the cars while we were in the pub. I cant see any good reason not to leave your dog in the car so long as they dont mind being in it.

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car???

The only time I leave my dogs in the car is when I first get to a show and I have to unload my cages out of the car.

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car???

I only leave mine in the car when getting petrol... or after a walk and there tired and im still talking or something. Other then that i take them with me, leave them at home or get my sister to sit in the car with them.

Good protection though if ur car doesnt have an alarm x

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car???

I leave my dogs in the car if its necessary, not for long periods of time, but if we have been for a long walk up the downs then on the way back I would sometimes stop for petrol, I only stop for petrol on the way back though, as on the way they get too excited and puppy tends to pee in the car!! xx
