Certain seeds, especially barley, can work their way into ears, eyelids, and into the skin between the toes, causing extensive damage, and infections.

The reason I mentioned feet particularly is because most people notice around the head when fussing but feet quite often get ignored until it's too late.
This time of year I check my boys feet, especially between the toes, every day
