Re: Assistance dogs

I haven't read Endal yet, but I have read 'second chance' and it makde me seriously consider raising a guide dog puppy. But I don't think I could bear it leaving!

I agree with whoever said it is part of their socialisation, making them confident etc

Re: Assistance dogs

From the little I know about assistant dogs, they need the different settings to cope with the different levels of training required according to the age of the dog. It is also an opportunity to assess which dogs will graduate into the next stage and which will go straight for rehoming as a pet, without using valuable training resources.

The RNIB train guide dogs in our area and are always advertising for suitable early stage/basic training homes. What a great job

Re: Assistance dogs

The main difference between a rescue and an assistance dog is that the assistance dog is given love and lots of socialisation to help them through.

The people who train these dogs do a fantastic job and the dogs would not do what they do if they were mistreated as some rescues are.

I worked in a kennels and if we had a dog that needed rehoming for any reason we always contacted dogs for the deaf to see if they could take it. They take rescues.
