Certain Breeds Should Be Worked???

my friend went to these kennels and there was a lovely whippet (her fav breed of dog) in there, it only has 3 days left in there before they put it down. I said she sould get it as it was a lovely, young, friendly, healthy dog, but she dosent know wether to get it as she thinks if she does get it she will have to work it because of its breed. I said you dont have to just because its a whippet, but she thinks she will otherwise the dog wont be happy.

replies will be greatly appreciated as she only has 3 days to decide!

Never owned one personally, but have had quite a few through classes, they are bright intelligent, sometimes a bit sensitive little dogs, none of the owners I have ever known have "worked" them in a traditional sense, but they do enjoy doing some obedience or agility work.

they seem to make nice pet dogs, but you need to sort the recall, cos you will never catch them.

Re: Certain Breeds Should Be Worked???

Whippets make wonderful pets, they do not need working, they are more than happy to sit in the warm all day and be spoilt. Please ,please give it a home they are sensitive and kind and u will be well rewarded.

I can't really comment but I know I would bring him home and make sure he has plenty of exercise. Lots of play/fun training.

Re: Certain Breeds Should Be Worked???

I have whippets and they are fantastic family dogs. They don't need a huge amount of exercise and love to cuddle up on the couch with you. They are generally clean in the house, quiet, don't shed much and are very sociable. As already mentioned you do need to make sure you can recall the dog as they will run for miles after a hare or rabbit. Whereabouts is this dog? If your friend doesn't want it perhaps someone else close by would be interested.
