Car sickness

My 5mth old collie x GSD is persistently sick when we go out in the car.

He isn't keen on the car anyway (not surprising really) but doesn't play up, he just vomits about 1/2 an hour into a journey - not every journey, probably 7 times out of 10. People have suggested that he travel in the front foot well, however he is far too big for that.

Any suggestions gratefully received

Re: Car sickness

I had a dog like this, she was 9 monts old when I got her though. Try going on short journies, and to somewhere fun too. Also try not to feed him before you are going in the car if you going to be in there for a while. I think you an get travel sickness things from the vets, but I would try other things first. Summer (my dog) ended up just dribbling when we were in there, but did stop being sick. It wasn't nice when yo had to get her out, she'd be soaked!

Re: Car sickness

Go to a health food store and buy some ginger tablets. (human ones) give one about half hour before travelling and bingo!

Poppy used to vomit 2-3 times per 10 minute journey. as soon as we started her on ginger it stopped!

Re: Car sickness

You could try things like spraying DAP spray (Dog Pheromones) in your car. This is supposed to help with long journeys, but doesn't work for everyone.

But worth a try I'd say.

Re: Car sickness

I'll be interested in any replies, Arran who is now two chucks up if we so much as go near a car with it's door open. I tried ginger after hearing good things about it but unfortunately it didn't work with him.

Re: Car sickness

I use Stugeron travel sickness tablets for my dogs but as they are small they only get half a tablet about an hour before we set off. Never had a problem since we have been using it. You can get them from the pharmacies.

take care

Sarah

Re: Car sickness

ginger won't cure a behavioural issue, that will take time and patience but it will help with motion sicknessxxx

Re: Car sickness

Sorry, I just read my previous post back, I really didn' mean to sound sh!tty, I've not got my happy head on.....

Some people say putting a wet newspaper in the back of the car, there's something in the ink which released a scent which can help (apparently)

Sorry again xxxx
