I think all dogs have their moments, Milo ignores me now and again but a kick up the arse soon sorts him out

I think its common sense to teach at least the basic commands of sit and stay and s**t like that! You can't have a dog doing what the hell it wants all day everyday.

I've never had a dog this poorly trained before I was totally appalled, told the guy we wouldn't have him again until he was better trained.

We did manage to teach him sit and down in the time we had him today which I think just goes to show that it's not the dog it's the owner.

He doesn't seem to think anything is wrong with the way his dog is, because it's not aggresive he thinks it's okay to be around his young kids.

I tried to explain that it would send them flying every 2 minutes but he didn't seem to give a toss!!!! Arggggghhhhh

Re: Rant about bad ownership!

There is no need for lack of manners no matter the size of the dog.
All mine have manners and are trained ....they behave while we are out and about, they know what steady and wait mean and they know what NO means.....they are all lead trained and come back when called etc......
They all go mental when certain friends or family visit but after 10 mins of jumping about like idiots they calm down and sit for a fuss......if taken to other peoples houses they have always behaved...
Dont get me wrong there are times when they just go silly in the house and we all get knocked into etc....but they are dogs and dogs play......its not an army camp and if I wanted a stuffed toy I would have gotten a toy....but saying that they know their places and have manners

Thats exactly the way we look at it. We don't want robot dogs but they have to do as we say when they are told.

This was a big bloody dog too, he was nearly as strong as Milo and he's deceptively strong, never had a dog stronger than Milo yet. There was no way the OH could have walked him.

So true, you could see glimpses of aggression coming through in him that less experienced people wouldn't have noticed, his owner certainly hasn't. And that if hadn't been addressed correctly could have turned nasty, I don't often feel threatened by a dog but I must admit this one made me wonder.

Thank god he's seeing a behaviorist, good thing is he's obviously a clever dog and should quickly be sorted out!

Re: Rant about bad ownership!

With the size of 3 of mine ( Dogue De Bordeaux ) they HAVE to be trained and have manners or I would not be able to walk them myself. And the little staffy is as strong as an ox herself .......

Re: Rant about bad ownership!

We saw one today at the show it had the owner right where he wanted him it was not just unmanagable outside the ring but was unruly in it as well it was taking a 'pop' at the dogs walking past him and the owner had no control at all

I didn't wanna say what breed it was but hey ho it was a boxer and built like a brick s**t house!

Milo's a lab/staff cross and i'm sure he's got the combined strength of both! He's got plenty of weight behind him too, it was a nightmare before we got him walking nicely on the lead!
