Question my pup wont go to the toilet???????????

my border terrier chews when we leave him so we decided to move him outside, we bought him a very expensive wood kennel and he loves it outside but 1 problem, he escaped a few days ago but thankfully came back after me crying for 5 hours, so we decided to get some rope and an ancor so he can't get out the garden incase the gate opens again, but now bacause hes tied up he wnt go to the toilet in the garden only on walks and i dnt know what to do as i cant make him go, advice will be really helpful, thankyou

Re: my pup wont go to the toilet???????????

You need to be extremely careful when using rope to secure your dog, since this can become entangled.

Have you considered a crate? This will keep him secure in your absence, just as long as you do not leave him confined for too long.

Sounds like he doesn't want to go to the toilet in his own space, he knows he is tied up, so can't get out of that space.

Dog do not like to toilet in there own area, if he really doen't want to you could leae him there for hours and he still wouldn't do it, but it might just be that its new to him, he might start going after a few days.

Re: my pup wont go to the toilet???????????

Glad I'm not the only one with an awkward pup!

Sounds like Jenny has hit the nail on the head to me!

I'd be careful with using rope to secure him too! Cant you just make the garden secure?

Re: my pup wont go to the toilet???????????

He would eventually get used to it , our fireinds have a lovely garden and small children so they have fenced off the grass area so thier dog has to toilet on the patio to be honest it is easy to clean too poo easily picked up and not snagged in the grass and wee can easily have a bucket of water thrown on it . Our friends hose the patio down every other day just to keep it clean and in turn they dont have patchy burned grass , the like of which we have lol
