Mine have caught and eaten rabbit themselves, only with the help of a couple of greyhounds I may add!! My odd lot wouldn't catch a cold on their own!! I absolutely would not allow my dogs to catch and kill any animal unless they ate it.

My dogs have eaten whole pheasant, gamekeeper had given it to me and although I personally am vegi I do find handling meat okay except cutting it up so I just decided to throw it to the dogs and let them cope!! They certainly did cope and apart from alot of feathers they pretty much ate the lot!

I don't have a problem with people feeding their dogs whatever they want (which in reason obviously draw the line at MacDonalds ) and don't see why anyone should care what I feed my dogs, they are fit, healthy in good condition and eat all their meals with relish so I'm perfectly content with my choice of feeding.

I found this which I thought very interesting IS A RAW FOOD DIET THE ANSWER
Thank you i read this with interest but am still going to try the raw and see how it goes.

While I'm a strict vegi I'm slightly odd in as I don't have a problem with people and dogs working for their food. I have no problem with hunting for food, it's hunting for sport that is disgusting in my eyes. I keep my horse on the local estate so every season we have the shoot and I'm perfectly happy as long as the birds are taken for food, I love seeing the dogs working and the enjoyment they get from it. The gameskeeper is fab and I'd happily rehome a dog to him as the life they lead is wonderful. Don't ask me to help gut or kill something but I'll always support good honest working people hunting for food.

We've managed to go totally off topic now!!!

Must admit I've got a crush on our gameskeeper...he's only 23 and GORGEOUS and all us older women at the yard do get a tad giggly when he visits!! He dropped off a boarder terrier last week that wouldn't work for me to rehome and I got his mobile number...selling it for £5 a throw to the other girls!!

When we had our first GSD over 20 years ago (showing my age now ), we did occasionally give him a large knuckle bone, but it splintered and he ended up at the vets. Thankfully there was no damage, but I decided not to give him bones again.

I know that one of our clients dogs was actually rushed into surgery having got a bone lodged in his throat. It was an extremely expensive treat

Needless to say that was his last bone.

It is very hard to gain confidence to feed raw when u av been brought up with constant information as to how dangerous raw or under cooked meat is!
But just think about all those street dog living abroad n how they cope scavenging bin and eating god knows what I know they aint the healthiest specimens but it pushes the point that dogs can survive eating god only knows what kind of rancid meat!
The necks I am assuming are natures menu frozen, the first lot I got where fine but the 2nd lot are still in the freezer as mainly big turkey necks and H cannot seem to keep em down.
Also if serious, invest in a food processor so u can mulch up raw vegs n a little offal as a change...man and dog cannot survive on meat (n bones) alone!
All of this thread terrifies me as an ex veterinary nurse i have seen so many dogs operated on or even die because they cannot digest or pass large pieces of bone stuck in their intestines!! You say dogs have survived scavenging from bins and eating rubbish on the streets!!! OMG is that what you really think is a good thing???? What about the many that die a painfull death with bones and 'rubbish' stuck in their bodies unable to digest it or even worse starve to death because a piece of bone is lodged in their mouth and they are unable to eat!!!! Is this really what we want to be advising is a good thing i wonder? Are we going backwards or forwards with our 'pet dogs'??
I just know that i would never ever try to feed bones as a main source of diet or even a treat to my dogs, i do not want to risk their lives when they are quite happy eating commercial food that i know is very good for them!!
Sorry to seem negative just that you have your evidence of how poorly your dog got in the first place after a couple of days change in diet, why try to fix something that is going fine in the first place i wonder???
