The reason I was sure is because she was never out for more than 5/10 mins before I noticed her escape. Once she was out the front and there was a huge old english sheepdog with her granted he was near her rear but I assumed that there hadn't been enough time past for them to mate, I don't even know if it was a male. Any other time she hasn't gone that far from the house and I have never seen a dog out on its own. I suppose there is a chance that she mated, I suppose dogs don't hang around like people more get on with it lol. Thanks for any help and advice xx lisa xx

Re: Sox pooing in the night...why

It's unlikely you will feel anything at the stage or anyway - please don't palpate her, it needs an experienced person to do it.

I suggest you take her to the vets, explain about her escaping during her season and get a mismate injection and then get her spayed, preferably mid way between season. Many vets don't like terminating pregnancies, however, this poor bitch is on her second home already, is already a cross and you have no idea what the father is if she is pregnant, and in this climate it would be hugely irresponsible to go ahead with a litter.

An in season bitch should not be allowed into the garden unsupervised - not only would she not have had the opportunity to escape, but she will also attract dogs and you may find one has got into your garden too.

Please check your fences - to escape once is possible, but to have done it on several occasions is.... well........... I won't say, but I think you get the gist.

Actually Rona is right, if it is a pyo, then this is life threatening and they can go downhill very quickly. Better get her to the vet asap.

We have 6" fencing all around our garden, and any time she escaped was at the hands of my 3 and 4 yr old, who saw her scratching at the gate to get out and thought they were going the right thing letting her out, as when not in season she goes out the back gate to run round the field with them. In the end I was apble to articulate to them she wasn't allowed out cos she is poorly but it wasn't easy to explain to young chilldren. I knew I shouldn't have asked for advice on here I knew at some point someone was going to use the words irrisponsible. I see so many people sadly mostly new too being told they are irrispnsible and bad cos of something like this happening. I came in the hope of friendly advice not to be told I was irrisponsible, no my children were so feel free to add that I am a bad mother too if you feel the need. I will tak eher to the vet and seek advice but don't feel that I could come on here asking help. I know the missmate injection would be better but I am religious and to some it may only be an animal but to me its life, if she is pregnant then I will deal with it and the pups. I don't think I could bring myself to in affect abort. Yes they may make me irrisponsible, but now where do I turn for help. When the suggestion that she may have mated came up I did think that if I couldnt bring myself to get her missmate jab, that the people I have come to regard as friends here would help and advise during the pregnancy labour and birth. Now I feel if I didn't terminate and asked for advice I would face hostility all the way through. xx lisa xx

I repeat - an in season bitch should not be left unattended in the garden.

Well, it is - what did you expect - congratulations

If I had a pound for every time I heard that!

However, if you are religious, then perhaps you should think of your poor dog - if it was the huge OES then your little collie cross could be at considerable risk during whelping.

Thanks for the congratulations that is exactly what I needed. I may be a 35 yr old woman, but thank you, you have single handedly reduced me to tears, I feel **** about myself and feel this is the one place I thought I had found some friends, thank you so much for sending back into my dark lonely friendless pit. I so love people like you. I will continue posting on the cat forum but don't need to be pushed any further. I am sure noone will be bothered what about the outcome of Sox's visit to the vet so won't bother posting. I loved being part of this little group so thank you for taking that away from me dundee.
