Guys i don't know if i made a mistake or not.....

but mika got hurt accidentally - by me. And he was crying like really loudly so he must have hurt himself bad.

I was playing with one of his toys with him and got too excited and sort of got in the way when i threw it he ended up getting hurt in the process

He started crying really badly and i picked him up and massaged him where it hurt. And he seems ok now.

But i'm not sure if i did the right thing because now he's afraid of his toy But he was hurting, i can't ignore him when he's hurt, can i?

What do i do re the toy?

Re: Guys i don't know if i made a mistake or not.....

Awww bless

Dont worry....i accidently 'bopped' Dylan on the head with one of his toys when we were playing, made him yelp i swooped him up and made a fuss of him to apologise LOL then carried on playing with the same toy, he is fine with it

Just let him see that the toy is still fun, show it to him and let him have a sniff of it.....he will eventually play with it again

Re: Guys i don't know if i made a mistake or not.....

It worries me though because he's a puppy. What if i really hurt him?

I'm reminded of Woody crying at night so much a year ago after i accidentally stepped on his paw earlier in the evening. I really really hope i haven't hurt him that badly.

I mean he is walking now and he's stoppped crying so i suppose he's ok. But what if the pain is temporarlily gone? What if it comes back?!

i am such a bad mother!

Some dogs are drama queens. You only have to so much as look at my friends cocker, and it start screaming and yelping.

Unless you threw a solid rubber toy, with all your strength, then i doubt you have done much damage. It was probably more a shock and surprise cry, than one of pain.

Re: Guys i don't know if i made a mistake or not.....

Dogs are shocked very easily. So may yelp or cry when you scare them. I know your immediate reaction is to go 'Ohhh I'm sorry, I didnt mean it' But the dog doesn't understand that. Its just re-inforcing that toy means bad things. When he had stopped crying you should have gone to him and given him a cuddle.
But i totally understand your impulse to cuddle. I have to bite my lip or dig my nails into my palm when Bess yelps if the hose has squirted her or if a tennis ball has hit her or if the dogs bowl her over. But she is fine after
Don't worry yourself hun, you did nothing wrong, he'll come round
He's just milking it

I will know what to do next time if it happens, i hope it doesn't happen again.

I don't think he is afraid of the toy so much now. I haven't tried playing with him with it since the last time i tried but i think he was playing with it by himself.

Stupid puppy, why did he have to get in the way?
