Going to see puppies on Saturday.

Well I've been looking around alot lately. And I've fell in love with some crossbreeds, and I was near to going for a crossbreed until I went on Adtrader today and found a litter of Labradors.

They only live 20mins away from me, and they cost £450.
They are also KC Registered and both parents have low hip scores, they were also nice enough to put up the sire's name, and after looking around on google, I found the father and it looks very good to me:
Stud Dogs & Stud Labradors from Blackharn Labradors, Norfolk
^ 2nd Dog Down, Fox Red, FTCh Tweedshot Maximus of Blackharn ^

I rang my mum and told her about the advert and gave her the information to ring about them. The lady that is selling them has 1 light coloured boy, 2 or 3 fox red boys and 2 or 3 peachey coloured boys. They are going to be keeping 1 fox red boy, but my mum asked about the light coloured boy, apparently he's very playful and she thinks he'll grow into a big boy

My mum told the lady that we have a dog already, whos a big boy, and needs a play mate, and the breeder said we sound like the perfect people, and very much pet people.

After being told that I asked my mum if she would be able to take me there, and we got a appointment to see them Saturday morning at 10.30pm

I CAN'T WAIT!!! xD I shall be taking £100 just in case of a deposit, they'll be ready by the end of June the advert says.

As you can all see on that website of the sire, he has low hip scores and a current clear eye test which was taken 16/03/08. Should I also ask to see the mothers hip score and eye test? Also what other test results should I look for?

The advert didn't say I'd be getting a puppy pack or 6weeks free insurance, but I will deffinately be asking that on the day.

Also can you think of anything else I need to ask, Thanks

Re: Going to see puppies on Saturday.

The father is beautiful but I'm a sucker for labradors. I'm not sure about the health tests other than hips, elbows and eyes for labs. Insist on getting the mothers test results a good breeder will be happy to provide these. I was always told the sign of a good breeder is they almost talk you out of getting the breed with all the questions you'll get asked about you, any potential problems with getting the breed etc.

Re: Going to see puppies on Saturday.

Yes you should ask to see the mother's hip score and eye test.
The puppy pack and 6 weks free is not something I would worry about..Though you should get a bit of the food she is feeding them and a meal schedule or something.

The 6 weeks free you can get from any vet when you take puppy for his 1st jabs.
I would be more concerned about worming and the mums tests.

I bet you can't wait to see them!

And what i said to my cousin, stear clear of the puppy who hangs back or seems shy of you, and also of the one who pushes forward. You want one that is not shy but not too bold either. And they should have clean eyes, noses, ears, bum, look generally health, happy and playful.

Good luck!

xx

Re: Going to see puppies on Saturday.

Well I'm only interested in the light boy I only want a golden lab or a black lab, nothing else, but that may be tested as I haven't seen a peachy lab lol...

Time shall tell

Questions so far:

- Mum's hip and eye tests.
- Puppy Pack & Insurance.
- Wormed before going to new home.
- Microchipped?
- Family Tree?
- KC Registration of the mother?
- Puppy papers?

Anything else to add to that list?

Bailey was the first one that pushed out the large crate haha.
But nah... he's lovely mine is, though very cheeky.

Also ask about feeding, as someone else already said, they should give you some of the food that they have been fed on (enough to last about 1 week usually).
The breeder won't microchip the puppy for you, the vet will do this for you and its usually around £20.
What age are you getting him at? If its 8 weeks, they should already have their first jags and be wormed. If its 12 weeks then the pup should have had both jags.

Re: Going to see puppies on Saturday.

if they are ready end of june the breeder may well have the puppies kc papers back to her already, ask to see the puppys papers as well as mum and dad? or if she has applied you can ring the kc yourself with the names of the parents to confirm that kc registration has/is being applied for, i only say this as there is a lot at the moment of people being told their puppy is kc registered and never receiving the papers

I'm guessing that's where we went wrong too i think he he. Mika was the first one to run to the front of his pen when we all arrived to take a look at him. He was the only boy pup in the litter but we all fell in love with him the minute we saw him lol!

Re: Going to see puppies on Saturday.

I know you will be getting 6 weeks free pet insurance but make sure you do your research straightaway for the full cover.

Remember that there is a 14 day waiting period for illnesses on any new policy, so if you were to go to a different provider than of the 6 weeks free one, please set up your policy at least 14 days before your free cover is scheduled to expire.

Good luck!
