Dog attacks!!!

Hi,i know there is so much bad perseption of SBT's and other bull breeds we here cotinous stories on the news etc.I have 3 dogs,a sharpei,a cross terrier and a 20week old SBT.As a famiy we have noticed how people react differently towards us when out with Poppy(SBT)we never had any problems when out with our other two(even though sharpei's are originally fighting dogs)(sadly our Sharpei was bred for fighting!!)
We continously hear bad stories about SBT 's everyone seems to look down at us now we have Poppy i have been told im not a responsible parent because we have brought a SBT into our home, people avoid us the list goes on.......To be honest i get sick of it none of our dogs are aggressive and we are responsible pet owners and im a very responsible parent.Iv got to the point were i feel i have to explain about Poppy and other SBT's to every Tom,Dick and Harry!!
Anyway im just wondering how many other people/dogs have been attacked by other breeds of dogs(other than bull breed)Are people scared or unsure of any other breeds of dogs??
I mentioned yesterday we have a local lady who has 2 very viscious Yorkshire Terriers but just because they are Yorkshire Terriers its ok for them to be out of control which to me is not fair had it been 2 SBT's something would of been done!!
Sorry to rant just getting really fed up of all the negativity about SBT's!!

Re: Dog attacks!!!

Both of my dogs SBT's have been attacked, bitten and jumped all over by other dogs.My dog was bitten 3 times on one walk as a 5 month old pup
Thankfully he has never retaliated, however my bitch has.

She can be quite aggressive with other dogs and has bitten a dobe and a JR in the last six months

Both were loose dogs who charged at her, and niether owner could recall their dogs, both owners had an ear bashing from my O/H.
Some people love SBT's and some hate them or believe the media hype that surrounds them.
I take plenty of no notice,if they want a chat fine I'll talk Staffords all day long If they want to avoid us fine.I actually find it quite amusing that the media has such an impact, yet if you were to ask them they would swear that it doesn't have any impact on them

Re: Dog attacks!!!

well I've only ever been bitten once and that was by a terrier (a westie- a breed I very much like )
My dog has once been had a go at by a JRT.

Really though I think it's all about individual dogs not breed.

I love staffies and bull breeds, the majority we meet are people and dog friendly and generally very nice dogs.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

It's not just you.

I have 2 greyhounds and people grab their kids and cross over the road with there dogs rather than walk past us. I can walk 5 whippets together and people are not bothered but if they see me with the greyhounds its totally different. Most of the people that cross the road have yorkies or JRT .

I now just ignore them and carry on walking. I know that my dogs are friendly and great with other dogs although they never run free with other dogs as they are too rowdy and big. You shouldn't have to justify why you own that particular breed but I think it is staffies that are called nanny dogs because they are so good with kids.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

I'm very lucky and neither myself or my dogs have ever been attacked.

However the dogs that I've noticed lunge at us when walking past have been JRT's, Border terriers and SBT. And I know 1 springer that is dog aggressive when on lead as she was attatcked when a puppy.

I have been told to Poppy should have a muzzle on when out even though she has never been aggressive(she is a puppy and a small one at that)
I am guessing as Poppy grows it will get worse??
I am actually finding it really annoying peoples views, opinions etc on Poppy and SBT's on the whole!!

Re: Dog attacks!!!

I think its just sad that all the media seem to mention is bull breeds(SBT's in particular)and other breeds never get a mention!
Im just not going to take any notice anymore i was actually starting to question Poppy myself and started thinking maybe i had made a mistake but she is starting puppy classes and she is no worse than any other puppy!

Re: Dog attacks!!!

If I'm on my own I will fuss a staffie, I have no problem with them, if I have my dogs with me then I give them a wide berth due to my last girl being killed by one.

yeah its odd why people are unsure of greyhounds too.I was brought up around lurchers as my dad worked them(he only has a salluki now and she is retired)We used to live near a couple who rescue greyhounds and we would often see her around with her husband walking 4 greyhounds but they all had wire muzzles on(she explained if they were not muzzled they would prob kill each other)
