Re: Dog attacks!!!

just read through this and agree with most of it.
but re apbt's
they are usually great with people BUT the breed standard accepts that hey do have inherent dog agression.

they can be great for years but suddenly they can explode in a frenzy and attack another dog without warning.

if you speak to person who knows pits or even ask the question of an experiencedd owner, usually on an american site, they are the first to admit it.

and re greyhounds, i was told as a child they were vicious and was nervous of them for years. but on going to flapping tracks with a mate who raced them i found them to be pretty gentle. dog aggression got them disqualified.
we had one in the car once for 300 miles, it was a lump and ir farted every 5 mins lmao. stank all the way home.

staffies are just staffies, either soft as a teddy or little buggers. my mate has 2 and my pup loves them and them him. but i'd never leave them alone.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

It's a shame these lovely dogs have such a bad rep
I have been attacked before and it was by a jack russel. Bess was attacked by two westies and now she growls everytime she sees them or westies in general There are a lot more temperamental breeds out there.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

I was attacked by a jack russel years ago - I was riding my bike with a friend and three of them came running out of a house and were biting our legs. The owners never came out which was a worry.
We own a staff crossed with a lurcher and she wouldn't hurt a fly (well that's a lie as she is contantly chasing flies and eating them lol!). She is so friendly and I trust her completely with people and kids - she just wants to lick people to death, to play and have her belly rubbed.
I don't trust alot of the other dogs in our area as most of them are always off the lead and seeing as Stella (our dog) is only 20 weeks old, she hasn't had as much socialization with other dogs as much as we would have liked to. Most of the dogs i our area are staffs, but they are never on a lead when walking on the pavement. Stella just gets compeltely excited to see another dog, but then sometimes I'm in fear as you never know how the other dog will react when off a lead confonted by a very excited pup who just wants to play!
Staffies are lovely, in fact most dogs are unfortunately it's the owners most of the time.

Why would you have to muzzle a rotti?

Re: Dog attacks!!!

oblada ..when this attack happened last year 2 police officers came out to our house ..when we got talking the officer said that there was a new law coming out that year.. dogs like rottweilers, pit bulls, those kind of dogs fall under the dangerous dog act he told us and have to be muzzled when out as a responsible dog owner ..this was last year as the guy was prosecuted and when we had to identify the dog he was told to muzzle it while bringing it out in the open and the police officer said they are getting tough on certain dogs that need to be muzzled

The only dogs that legally have to be muzzled in public are:

The pit bull terriers, The Japanese Tosa, The Dogo Argentino and The Fila Brazileiro.

No other breed is required to be muzzled.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

nonnie..that is what the police officers said when they came out as they are big dogs and all dogs no matter how cute have the instinct to bite if they wished too.
all i know is round my area they are muzzled to protect the public
but I'm not going to argue with a police officer ..when this happened with our dog and child we got told dog on dog go away but dog on child were put him in the ploice van and read him his rights etc so they are quite serious as lots of children and babies have fallen victims to some of these dogs as they have not been used as a pet but a guard dog just such a shame how some animals are treated

Re: Dog attacks!!!

ALL dogs are covered under the DDA. If a lab goes and attacks someone, then under this law they can be legally required to be muzzled and kept on a leash in public.

Unless a dog is a banned breed, or has attacked, then the owners are under no obligation to muzzle their dogs. Regardless of what a police officer may say.
