Greyhounds have to wear muzzls in public places if they are registered as race dogs. The daft thing is as soon as their identity card is stamped retired they no are longer required to wear a muzzle it is the owners descretion whether the dog wears one or not. My 2 wear muzzles when they are free running but I never run them with other peoples dogs it just that they tend to grab at each other as they run.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

Weird how people dont like greyhounds when my whippet puppy is practically mobbed whenever we go out!! In fact I wish people liked him less, trying to teach him not to jump up is hard when every person he meets encourages him to jump all over them! It seems size does matter!!LOL
As to SBTs, I dont mind them as they seem less reactive then alot of terrier breeds however with a 9Ib and a 6Ib dog, plus a thin coated breed, I do worry about most dogs when out..
Just lately Ive gotten more apprehensive about boxers TBH. Met alot lately that had bad dominance issues and were badly controlled.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

I have been attacked by a GSD and Henrick has been attacked by a Bichon and twice by different JRT's and once by two yorkies. Oh gawd how soft is my dog? I was brought up with a SBT and he really was the sweetest boy you could hope to meet, he didn't like bigger dogs but that was why he was always on his lead.

I can walk 4 of my whippets together and the very same people who keep their kids and dogs away from my greyhounds are quite happy to let their kids fuss my rowdy mob and let their dogs sniff at my lot despite the fact that they will jump allover the place. Same with Zoe people are happy to fuss the rowdy red hairball and let their dogs and kids come near her but the greyhounds are more likely to stand and let people fuss them.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

All dogs have the opportunity to be agressive, if they are handled in the wrong way they will be aggressive

As long as you know your dog is not aggressive, don't worry. People can be very wary of SBTs and other dogs because of the way they have been portrayed as 'weapons'. It's a sad thing

I am actually finding it really annoying peoples views, opinions etc on Poppy and SBT's on the whole!!
please do not muzzle her if not nessary you do not need to do this, ignore whoevery told you that it is NOT TRUE!

unfortunatly due to media you have to have a thick skin if you have a staffie, you will get it for the rest of her life but the best thing to do is ignore people like that, i have had my fair share of people pulling thier kids out of my way but i have had more positvie expierinced as people love Minni and always come up for a stroke. go out and enjoy your staffie pup dont think about other people, let them do say what they want if you know your girl is sociable then there is no problem!

Re: Dog attacks!!!

We had a staffie cross who was the softest sweetest dog I've ever owned. I will gladly fuss a SBT and adore greyhounds.
In a way I'm quite glad that you feel like defending your breed, (I'm not glad that you should have to, if that makes sense) because a lot of sbt owners we meet on our walks, reign their dogs in and don't seem to want you to meet them. I'm never sure if thats because their dog is nervous or aggresive, or because they are fed up of peoples perception of them and therefore find it easier just to keep them away which is sad because it reinforces the perception of them.
So it's good that you take the time to talk to people and hopefully might change their preconcieved ideas.

Sh.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

My daughter where we live ,was attacked by a rottweiler when walking down our side of the path with our jack Russel..this dog shot from the back of the hall way up and knocked his elder owner out the way with no collar it had his mouth over our dogs throat so my daughter picked her up and the other dog would not stop jumping and interrogating them both my 6 yr old just got behind our gate ..
We called the police out and he was done for no collar not socializing the dog we were told all the dogs that are talked about today SHOULD BE MUZZLED WHEN OUT and if not the owner will face prosecution as a new dog law came in for these animals under dangerous dogs and if you see any that are not muzzled you are right to report it ..no not all dogs are the same but the lawa is the law and was the ploice talking to us

Re: Dog attacks!!!

I know what you mean. We have a SBT and people cross the street when they see her. She's never so much as growled at us or another dog. We have two kids aged 3 and 18 months and she's brilliant with them.
