Re: Dog attacks!!!

I would like to belive, that is how your dog is brought up, to how safe people are around it and how likely it is to attack. Although having saying this you have to bare in mind, what the breed was orginally breed for.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

I love staffies and would have one tomorrow. The rescue my mum volunteers for is over run with staffies since the bad press has been thrown onto them. However she has had staffies come in that have been used as gang protection dogs and have been trained to be nasty. I have a daughter myself and would still have a staffie, I've known people who have had staffies with children who have been so well behaved and fantastic around children of all ages. My old friend from school had one and she was so soft of mouth and well trained. I could have took her home myself! I think people assume because pit bulls are so closely related to staffs that all staffs must be like pit bulls The same as when I tell people about having a St Bernard they all think he MUST run upstairs and get my bed filthy thanks to that bloody film! Ok not entirely the same but you get my point? What people see on tv must apply to all dogs of that breed.

I'm sorry, please don't think all the mastiff breeds are bad because of that one

Re: Dog attacks!!!

I personally am more weary of small breed dogs as they tend to be the aggressive, poorly behaved dogs ''because they're so small and cute'' and get away with it.

Re: Dog attacks!!!

I've just rescued (from a loving home) a lil staffie. Never had one before, never even thought it would be a problem/issue. I have a 10yr old daughter and they love each other all ready.
Starting puppy classes next week mostly for socialisation. I love her millions and she is a sweetheart.

A good friend of mine, who is nervous of most dogs anyway, said "oh is that the breed that kills"....I love her but was VERY unimpressed with that comment and told her as much and not to be so bloody stupid.

I guess I'm going to get reactions sometimes having a SBT then eh? Didn't enter my head.

I now just ignore them and carry on walking. I know that my dogs are friendly and great with other dogs although they never run free with other dogs as they are too rowdy and big. You shouldn't have to justify why you own that particular breed but I think it is staffies that are called nanny dogs because they are so good with kids.

When I was a kid I was out wlaking my gsdx collie and I was in the enclosed rugby pitch... Well A guy came in with four greyhounds... Told me to get my dog on a lead and out of the area cos he was gonna let his off and cause they were racing dogs they would rip mine to pieces..... I was about 10 and papped me pants and went home very upset... Its plonkers like that who make people feared of your dogs... I know through my mum having a greyhound that they are top dogs...
