Re: puppy buying advice dilema
It sounds to me as though the breeder is rather ignorant rather than lying. £300 is incredibly cheap even for an unregistered pup so she is certainly not breeding for money. Maybe she thinks 'papers' mean the pedigree which is done by the breeder. If the owner of the stud dog is doing them it probably means the bitch's owner doesnt know how to and may genuinely think you can register the pup if you want to. 6 weeks is rather young but if the pups are not going to be socialised and others are going at 6 weeks I wouldnt want to leave one behind. I wouldnt walk away, I would accept that you are getting an unregistered puppy from a mother with a good temperament and a house reared pup that is used to other dogs and children. If you think £300 is expensive you certainly wont be buying a pup from someone else from the more normal £600 plus so I would certainly risk it. My unregistered pup cost more than that and I couldnt afford a registered one so was very pleased to find a sensibly priced litter.

Re: puppy buying advice dilema
I agree with the opinions above. I would not take a puppy younger than 8 weeks and a responsible breeder would not LET you take them.
Asking for money upfront is also strange I would think. Any honest person would give you your deposit back...

Re: puppy buying advice dilema
I would walk away too, i would not have a puppy until at least 8 weeks old and would not expect to pay for the 2 weeks extra keep. I agree the idea of the last 2 weeks or more is for socialising the pups and the biting part of it is very important especially in such a big powerful breed. We have seen so many threads on here lately about puppies biting and how do they stop them and some i would suspect are pups that are too young to leave their litter mates.
I would say £50 is little to lose in comparison to the time you hope to have your dog once you find the right one. As someone said before would you feel confident that you could consult the breeder with confidence in the future if you had a problem. have they said that if you do have a problem or need to return the pup that they will gladly take it back. |

Re: puppy buying advice dilema
Our breeder said the same, that if we ever have any problems and questions we can contact her ( which we did when Spud was sick) and she'd also take hiim back if we couldn't keep him for any reason ( which I cannot even imagine!)

Re: puppy buying advice dilema
Just walk away.
No reputable breeder would ask u for money up front. Papers are papers, if they cant show u them they arent organised breeders. This pup may have a wonderful mom and dad, she may have a beautiful temperament and make u a great pet but she is not what u signed up for. Oh my i can understand how much emotional thought u have put into this but pedigrees are a lot of money. Get what u've paid for or walk. Genna xxxx |
