Pet Insurance

Just looking around for insurance for my new puppy. I was with DBI previously but they don't exist anymore.

Got Kennel Club 6 weeks free insurance but it is a lot more expensive then what I used to pay.

Any recommendations?

Re: Pet Insurance

Try E&L. I insured my horses with them and found they did very cheap dog insurance too.

Re: Pet Insurance

I've got a new pup too and am on my 6 weeks free and have been looking around myself. The KC one worked out at about £28 a month. The Post Office actually do quite a good one for dogs and cats. It seems to match what KC offer and a bit cheaper but still creeping over the £20 mark. I'll keep looking and let you know what I find and will come back here to see what other responses you get. One thing I would suggest you consider though while you're looking. My last dog lived 14 years and I paid insurance for every month of it paying about £15 a month. When I came to disposing of her things I was reading through the small print and realised that she was only really covered till the age of 9 and after that they did not consider old age to be an insurable factor. The KC one is expensive because there is no age limit for the dogs and no time maximums on treatments. Anyway, we've got 6 weeks so i'll race you to a great deal!

Re: Pet Insurance

Jane,

I've been looking around at quotes and found the following that are worth looking at so far...

The AFI pet insurance link you've been given below looks quite good. More Than however not only match them but are slightly better and I got a quote at just over £10 a month (much less than half the cost!)

Sainsburys bank came in at between £15 & £18 a month depending on excess and maximum fee per condition (2500 for £15 or 6500 for £18). They have a very good policy and a lot better than both of those above and with no age or time limits and they've won awards for it in both of the last 2 years.

The AA (cars not alcohol!) also have a very good one and comparable with sainsburys. They have an extra option though. You can go for the standard excess where you pay a set amount for any treatment, or you can have your premiums reduced if you pay the first 10% of any treatment.

Personally I think you should look at the sites below first. They tell you all about pet insurance, what to look out for, what's important and all that and they compare all the sites for you. Dog people know dogs but insurance people know insurance!

Re: Pet Insurance

Thank you so much, I sort of gave up for a couple of days felt I was drowning in insurance information. Will have a look at the sites got till 22nd April until KC Insurance runs out so i still have some time left.

Once again thanks for your help.

Re: Pet Insurance

my 2 border collies are with argos at the moment and i had a very good deal and the payout on a claim is for the duration of the illness and not just for the first year like some, you also get an online discount,

after going through getting a personal quote for each dog it ended up cheeper to get the platinum cover than it was for the gold cover, so its always worth checking rather than just taking the set covers and prices. Both mine are now covered for the for the same price as just one of my mothers dogs who is with Tesco and its a better policy with Argos too.
