Starting to worry now...

In a few weeks I'll be getting my new puppy. She was born two weeks ago and we went to see her when she was just 10 hours old - the breeder bought her out to us for a couple of minutes and she also bought the mother out afterwards - she had obviously recently given birth! The reason we went to see her so early was that we have been waiting for this particular colour of the breed and knew that there were other people waiting on the birth of the puppies for their choice in colour.

I don't know if it's because I'm reading more on this forum, or just me being a worrier but I'm starting to worry about my puppy! We already have a male neutured dog who is almost six, and we only want our new puppy as a pet, not to breed from so don't want her papers!

I'd still like to know her background and see her with her mother - can I ask the breeder for this? There's nothing that the breeder has done to make me worry, it's just that you hear such awful stories.

Can anyone advise me please on what questions to ask and what records I am entitled to see?

Also, if anyone has CKCS could they pm me - I'd like to ask their opinion on the breeder if they have heard of them

Re: Starting to worry now...

to be honest i find it quite unbelievable that a breeder would show you a puppy that was 10 hours old, that is terrible those puppies are so open to infections being bought in,anything could have happened ( i am not getting at you here) just after the birth and for the next few weeks the mother needs quiet and no intruding into her little life with the puppies, i am truly gob smacked that the breeder has done this!!! i would find yourself someone who knows what they are doing with their puppies and mum?

This is what is worrying me after all that I have read. She wouldn't let us touch the pup but did let us pet the mum which is as bad as touching the pup imo. I keep thinking it's me being paranoid but I've waited a while for this colouring in a pup and don't want anything to go wrong.

Re: Starting to worry now...

I do wonder how kitchen reared pups have ever survived, when there is a constant stream of people in and out of the house. My pups have had visitors from birth and the bitch has been around to greet visitors as soon as she wants to leave the pups for a little while. I actually wouldnt want a pup from somewhere where they are kept in isolation till they are 6 weeks. But each to their own.

Re: Starting to worry now...

Cassieellie, it would certainly concern me that the breeder allowed you contact within a day of them being born. I can see no need - unless she wants you to put a deposit down?

Most important of all, have both parents been health tested? I believe heart and eyes as well as Syringomyelia are the main health problems.

Dont know anything about this sort of thing our were 3weeks when we first saw them but with my limited knowledge on this sort of thing it does'nt soung like the right thing to do. Is it an old wives tale but can the mother reject a puppie by doing this at such an early stage.
