Mum Bitten By A Chihuahua!

Hi All

Yesterday, Mum and I popped to the shops...just before we got back in the car, I spotted a young girl of 13 or so carrying a tiny puppy. The little Chihuahua had no collar or lead, and was shivering with cold even though it was quite a warm day.

My Mum was amazed at how small it was and we went over. I asked the girl how old the dog was and she didnt seem too sure, and said a few weeks...the girl didnt seem to know much about it. Anyway, Mother ventured closer and reached out to stroke little one and it darted forwards and bit her! Teeth and growling ensued!

The girl then said,' Oh, she isnt very friendly.'!!! Understatement!

I was quite concerned that such a young pup was so unfriendly, but also that the girl didnt seem to have a clue, and was just wondering around with it!

My Mother was gobsmacked, as she has always thought 'staffys and those sorts of dogs were snappy'!!!!

Do you guys see odd things and dogs you worry about?!

Thanks!

Yep theres a whole lj community dedicated to stupid pet owners. I would say that chis bite a lot more people than staffys. Poor puppy he shouldn't even have been outside if he was a few weeks old probably got scared.

awww poor thing i agree most likely scared bear in mind it is with a young girl and you know what some kids are like with dogs they can be quite rough.

I dont mean to be horrible but even if a dog/puppy is with a young kid or adult you should never attemp to touch/stroke somebody elses dog you should always ask before hand the owner might not want you touching the dog or the dog even a puppy can be unfriendly.

13's hardly a young kid and she should have some kind of sense not to be rough with a tiny puppy. You should always ask someone before you pet a dog.

My Mum has never been around dogs, and is still getting used to Pippin when we bring her round, so shes not totally clued up on dogs. She is getting there though!

yes 13 is a young kid most of them are still silly some dont have manners and have never had a dog before and when it comes to a puppy chihuahua they want to dress up and play with they can be to rough and so can there friends its worse when there is a group of children,
Children that age can rough handle them.

You know there's a lot of this, little dogs being carried seem to get quite a high opinion of themselves then they get protective of their owners and it comes out as aggression. And owners let them get away with it because they are small. We walk with two pugs and although they are small they are really well behaved.

Totally agree with you there, they also don't let them socialise with other dogs which makes them dog aggressive.

Re: Mum Bitten By A Chihuahua!

If it is only a young pup, then biting is quite common.

As I hope you know please explain to your mother that if anything she has NOTHING to fear from staffies and the like, they are the VERY LEAST likely to bite a person, they are VERY people friendly!!!

As for a Chi pup...well some very small breeds can be snappy because they are treated as kids or toys and not animals by their owners and tend to be aggressive either out of fear / misplaced protection of the owner or dominance even. And that will be even more likely if at the time they are in the arms of their owner..a pup may also not be very socialised and feel threatened by a "big" person coming so close when they thought they were all safe all cuddled up to their owner...

xx
